it's not really how 2017 wound up but
naw 2017 wound up with more deceitful and passive aggressive tactics from lawmakers to remove freedoms and rights using media as a tool to manipulate the masses similar to the lies told in the movie about the main character. the forceful stasi has yet to be implemented since the right to bear arms is still in effect. they can't control you completely until they can execute you without resistance.the concentration camp prisons aren't quite established just yet in 2019. convicts in 2019 get better health care and cable services than the unemployed, mediocre, tax-burden-of-a-citizen who lives in their mothers basement chanting "socialism works!"the Running Man shows dancers haircuts and outfits were also time traveled back to the early 80s which was also when hair spray was not yet clarified as an ozone layer depletion cause.the masses are letting bartenders and enemies of the state become public officials who in turn, immediately turn into power hungry elitists and sway entire classes of children (thru their hippie teacher's advice) to tell a 900 year old senator that they must do "something" to stop global climate change, yet they don't have any idea of what this something is. the representatives squabble for years and waste millions upon millions of taxpayers money on their simple hatred over a president because he is upsetting their global domination plans and casting light on their evil ways. the public still believes these representatives are good people and ignore the facts these same reps haven't really done much in the their 50 years in office. on the other card, a presidential candidate who is obviously perverse, claims, after 50 years in service to the people, NOW he will do something as president and the masses cheer because they simply hate the current president who has years of track records of popularity and becomes so hated because the media portrays him in a certain way. media controlled by the elitists to indoctrinate you to their side...i figure 50 more years of denying these archaic politicians are all liars and "bad people" before the Running Man becomes a real show, and i will be dead by then, so who cares? it's a movie from cocaine fueled minds of the 80s.maria conchita alonsovarquez-whatever was always a terrible actress, so that was on point

No-Frills HD Transfer of a Popcorn Action Film
The Running Man [Blu-ray ] played exactly as advertised. This is a crisp HD transfer of one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's 1980s action films. The Running Man is a story of a society run amok with power - a simplified Orwellian nightmare on a b-movie scale, one with fascist controls over the population, plenty of propaganda, fabrication and manipulation of news, and a #1 TV show where convicts are publicly forced to combat gladiators for a chance at freedom.Schwarzenegger plays Ben Richards, a former government agent turned convict who ends up on "The Running Man," TV show, fighting for his life against his would-be executioners. The acting is clearly b-movie grade, but beyond watching Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime, the secondary highlight is watching Richard Dawson play Killian, the host of the show. Dawson lends his experience from over 25 years of game shows and talk shows to provide a slightly darker side of himself, a character that has no problem with making sport of man's life. The film itself is presented in 7.1 DTS-HD, and this blu-ray version looks and sounds better than anything I've ever previously experienced. Included in audio options are 2 different commentaries. One features director Paul Michael Glaser and producer Tim Zinnemann. The other is by the film's executive producer, Rob Cohen. In the Special Features section, this blu-ray contains the theatrical trailer and 2 documentaries. One is a documentary short titled "Lockdown on Main Street: Civil Liberties Post 9/11." It's a somewhat biased look at the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001. The documentary is concerned with just how far the US government could go with PATRIOT, based on the loose scope and resulting broad power contained within that law.The other documentary is "Game Theory: An Examination of Reality TV." This documentary examines the intricacies of reality television and how the shows manipulate the reality they purport to portray. It also addresses the growing amount of surveillance cameras in daily life, and in a slightly-biased point of view, they play up the concern for peoples' liberty associated with these new potential intrusions.Comparatively, this is a no-frills blu-ray release. The audio commentaries are nice, but the special features section is sparse when stacked up against your average popular film's blu-ray release. There are no deleted scenes, nor is there a still gallery with lobby cards and other memorabilia. 2 mediocre documentaries and a theatrical trailer is all you get for extras.Anyone who is a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger films, however, should be completely satisfied with this product.

"Es ist... SHOWTIME!"
- "Zu was?" - "Kommen Sie, raten Sie!" - "In Ordnung. NOT SO GREAT BRITAIN....IM OFF TO GREECE.
The year is 2019, the young can't afford to buy houses, the cost of living is astronomical, everything is a rip off, the country us on its knees, the world is in the verge of collapse and soon the UK won't exist. I recently went to Greece, a time they are supposed to be struggling. You would never know. It's as lovely as ever. But even TV is now awful in England. Made for the thick! Thank God The Running Man is not set in the current reality of 2019.The Running Man is a bit of a coffee break for Arnie, even back in 1987 when he was still on the rise to becoming,if not already the biggest action star ever. Up until this point we had Conan, The Terminator, Commando, Raw Deal and Predator. Arguably Predator is Arnie at his peak, and in my opinion, he was. I say coffee break, but there is nothing wrong with The Running Man at all. It's a cult sci-fi classic, just not on the budget of Arnie's other movies. Nothing wrong with that because it gives the movie it's charm. It's one of Arnie's most violent film's, pretty much every scene with a short break in between is some one been chopped or bashed. Really enjoyable stuff and Schwarzenegger is on top form given the material given to him at the time. There are more holes in the plot than in my atheists foot but again that's what makes it what it is. A really enjoyable action film that I enjoy as much as I did back in 87 when I got my first copy on VHS. Even better on the new release Blu-ray with special feature commentary. And it's nice to see they have kept the original art work for the Blu-ray cover rather than mess around with it.

Exelent Futuristic Swarzengger movie from 1987
Chuffed to bits this has finaly made its way to UK release. I did have the US 2Disc but it was region 1. This obviously is region B blu ray & has the same special features of a few featurettes & 2 commentaries from producer Rob Cohen who spills the beans on the always problematic shinnanigans that take place behind the scenes. And eventual director Paul Michael Glasier more famous as Starsky of Tv cop duo Starsky And Hutch. Great film that kind of was before it's time with TV almost coppying this films futuristic view. Strange that real life US version of Bruce Forsythe, Richard Dawson, plays the role of a vilainous game show host and how strange it would be if Forsythe or Bob Monkhouse were to play a role like the role Dawson plays here. Set in the future, Schwarzengger plays Ben Richards, falsely accused of attacking innocent protesters & imprisioned he & others break free & are forced to take part in popular game show, Where they have to fight for their lives against star killers, Maria Concheta Alonso gets tangled into the show, When she spots the lies & is caught looking into secret files about Richards, and together along with the other prison escapies they have fight the gladiator style warriors & win the the show. In this violent but great Schwarzenegger movie that sits perfectly beside his Terminator films, Preadator (1987 same year as The Running Man) Total Recall & other films of his from his hey day.

It's Showtime!
The Running Man is a film directed by Paul Michael Glaser, the original Dave Starsky from the '70s TV show Starsky & Hutch. The film was written by Richard Bachman, or Steven King by his real name. It was filmed with a $27 million budget and released in late November, 1987 by TriStar Pictures. The film features music by Harold Faltermeyer, cinematography by Thomas Del Ruth and stars the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger. His co-stars are Yaphet Kotto (Alien), Maria Conchita Alonso (Predator 2) and the legendary Richard Dawson of Family Feud television game show. The Running Man is based in a dystopian future where the United States has become a totalitarian police state. The government runs the show of the same name. The broadcast is to let criminals run for their lives and be hunted by stalkers. If they win, they earn their freedom. It's a great way to pacify the populace. Arnold plays Ben Richards, a police helicopter pilot who is framed for refusing to fire upon a food riot. After he escapes from prison, he finds himself fighting for his life in The Running Man. He takes on the mercenary stalkers one on one as he works on a plan to seek revenge on Damon Killian.Whilst The Running Man isn't as good a movie as Total Recall, The Terminator or Predator, it's still a very well crafted and very fun movie to watch. Like most '80s action movies, it doesn't mess around getting to the action. It's one great set piece after another. Lots of violence and one liners, some so good that many of us are still quoting them thirty something years later. Arnold is clearly at his peak physically. He's an absolute beast of a man. He works well with his co-stars, all of which do a good job through out. Richard Dawson as Damon Killian almost steals the show from Arnie. He has many great lines and comes across as one unlikeable *cough*. You can't help but love every scene he is in but you still want him to meet an epic end at the hands of Richards. He is a perfect villain in every way. There's some nice little spots from Jessie Ventura of all people and like Jessie, it's always over the top and has a great witty line. You'll also get a cool cameo from legendary musician Mick Fleetwood as the resistance leader Mic and Dweezil Zappa (son of Frank) of all people. It's a great list of actors and personalities. If you ask anyone about this film, they won't be able to pick one specific scene as the best. The prison escape, the chase through the airport or Sub Zero's ice skating and Buzzsaw's motorcycle chase. They are all great action scenes. There's also the now legendary battle between governors Schwarzenegger and Ventura. It's great gory fun. Also, a quick shout out to Erland Van Lidth De Jeude, who sadly died just after finishing the movie. God knows, no one can forget the odd image of the electrically charged opera singer turned merc, Dynamo. Each scene with these characters are all on beat, they're all overly energetic, they all have their great one liners and they're so memorable.I was well surprised by the picture quality that Fabulous Films produced for this movie. I was expecting it to be another easy cash grab like a lot of other Arnold Schwarzenegger bluray releases. But this one looks and sounds very good. The image is nice and crisp. The colours and shadows all look very strong. There's no real issues with the picture in fact. You can see every bulging muscle, every popping vein and every drop of sweat. It's so manly and awesome. The Running Man has been pretty well looked after and I'm glad to see that it has aged better than I had expected. Like a lot of great '80s action movies, this one has proven to be another timeless classic. It makes the leap to high definition with great strides. There's no going back to the old DVDs once you have seen this one. It's not ground breaking but it's exactly why physical media needs to be upgraded every 15 yrs.As a film, it's well worth picking up and a must buy if Arnold Schwarzenegger is your thing. This is Arnold at his peak, or the start of it. The Running Man has a great cast, great music and so many great scenes that it is so fondly remembered for a reason. You really can't go wrong.

Classic Arnie in a not quite classic King adaptation
Classic Arnie but not so classic King adaptation, if this book had been filmed as it was written it would probably be a dour and hard to enjoy piece of cinema, filmed through a neon lens it becomes a campy cult classic, if you need a plot synopsis then you should probably read another review, this is just to highlight how much fun can be had from this film if you treat it for what it is, escapist ridiculously OTT fun!A genuine game show host at the time in America Richard Dawson as Killian was an unexpected highlight and gives the film its perfect villain, utterly likeable on screen and equally loathsome off screen while still being charming, Turn off your brain and strap in to enjoy a true 80's masterpiece of cinema.PS, it even inspired a great song by Messiah called Temple of Dreams which sampled Killian's lines, altogether now, It's time..to start....RUNNING!
