Feel good escapism
I'm not going to lie, I only wanted to read Mrs Harris Goes to Paris because I wanted to watch the adaptation starring Lesley Manville (who I adore -- everyone should watch Mum!) and I'm always keen to read the books first. This, however, became a bit of an irony as I read because the entire time I kept imagining how much better the story must have worked on the big screen as opposed to the book. I really think the magic and sweetness of the plot will work much better on film.A second novella is included in this edition, Mrs Harris Goes to New York, and I liked that it included a bit of romance for Mrs Harris.Gallico managed to make both Paris and New York very attractive settings. He included some lovely details and brought the cities to life nicely. Both novellas are a little predictable and you could guess the outcome of the second one in particular after the first few chapters. I didn't find this worried me too much. I think I just accepted them for what they were - fluffy feel good escapism.I wouldn't be averse to reading the rest of the series one day.4 out of 5

Old fashioned but good fun
What's not to like about Paul Gallico, one of the most brilliant writers of our time. his tales of Mrs. Harris are funny and touching even though extremely unlikely. I enjoyed reading both books, rather a blast from the past. I will look out for "The snow goose" I know I read it a long time ago, but I'd recommend any of his works.

Two novels in one good paperback.
Paul Gallico's most popular novels are together in this clear, well-printed paperback edition. It is a pleasure to read.
