Politics and International Law
L**N
comprehensive and accessible
This book is an excellent reference for my upper division undergraduate course on international law and politics. The case studies are a great pedagogical feature. Students learn more when the theoretical concepts can be grounded in real life and, for the instructor, finding appropriate cases can be very difficult. Johns brings together a vast amount of information in an organized, accessible format and draws on deep expertise to demonstrate how international law and politics interrelate.

Excellent, thorough, engaging
Prof. Johns - an expert on the cutting edge of the subject material for this book - has distilled a lot of advanced work into an accessible and engaging textbook. Two features stand out. (1) It is theoretically strong. There are abstract models that don't resort to jumbled "isms" discussions. And (2) each chapter begins and ends with a thought-provoking current event that is used to demonstrate that chapter's core ideas. Parts of this book would fit well in an Introduction to IR class. It is also perfect for a standalone upper level class on international law. For political science graduate students who want the legal part of international law, it also does a good job on that front, too.
