Both interesting and a quick read
I am an avid reader of Military History. However, I knew little of this conflict till reading this. It covers the politics as well as the strategy of the conflict. A definite addition to my bookshelf (after reading of course)

Excellent account of the Armies of the Indonesian War of Independence
I have enjoyed reading Osprey books for many years. The coverage of WWII campaigns, weapons, tactics, vessels, aircraft, and combat vehicles is spot on IMHO. This account of the Indonesian and Dutch force that fought in the Dutch–Indonesian War 1945–49 is well researched.

World War II: Aftermath in Indonesia...
The defeat of Japan in 1945 left many former European colonizers of the Far East in a poor position to retake control of pre-war territories. Among these were the Netherlands, itself under German occupation from 1940. In the absence of a controlling central government, the Indonesians worked their own solutions. This Osprey Men-at-Arms entry covers the chaotic post-war situation in the former Dutch East Indies in an even-handed manner. Early arriving Allied troops were forced to use surrendering Japanese troops to help keep order. The heart of the narrative is the Dutch effort to restore control over their former colony, and the military consequences. The book offers a terse but even-handed narrative of the conflict. The text includes a variety of contemporary photographs and modern illustrations and maps. Well recommended as a good introduction to a complex topic.
