Desecrated graves, dead bodies dug up and left arranged in show-homes... Every time, the same ritual: a woman, a man, a teenager, who weren't related but who form a macabre family. Amid the bodies a photo of Paul Maisonneuve is placed, a Crime Squad legend in the North of France, now retired but forced to return to duty. Who is digging up the bodies? Who is leaving them in these show-homes and why?Young female detective Sandra Winckler, in charge of the case, must work with Paul to find out who is behind these disturbing human tableaus. During her investigation, she will have to delve into Paul's past, always sensing that he is hiding something. Because that's where the truth must lie: somewhere in Paul's past. For the detective and the ex-cop, life will never be the same... For in the shadows is a man who will stop at nothing to satisfy his thirst for a long and drawn-out revenge...French with English subtitles

Intriguing Frech Police Drama
Someone is robbing graves and placing the corpses in model homes. Detective Sandra Winckler investigates and finds a photo of a former detective named Paul Maisonneuve (French for new house). Maisonneuve comes out of retirement and joins the investigation. Is somebody trying to get revenge? Is somebody trying to get him to investigate a case? Both Winckler and Maisonneuve are smart and capable. Sadly, the show does not avoid the wimpy woman stereotype as Winckler tends to freeze when threatened with physical violence even though she has a pistol. Thought not as complex as Spiral, this show has good production value and solid acting. It held my interest.

Increasingly Ridiculous...
There is no real mystery in this story. It was obvious who done it almost from the start. In the first episode, the heroine is supposedly the most capable of detectives, who "doesn't miss a thing." By the third episode, she missed everything, and it became increasingly ridiculous—as she never wasted an opportunity to make the wrong choice when the correct choice was clear. No police force could be this inept. It is beautifully shot, everything seems to have a grey cast, although the grey, cloudy sky is matted in and it never changes throughout the six episodes and in the intro. This got good reviews for some reason. There are far better French detective shows available.

I really enjoyed this series
I really enjoyed this series. I didn't appreciate that I had to pay for the final episode. What a cheap shot Amazon. I could have watched the whole series for free on Netflix. I am a Prime Member so I did watch the first five for free. But to watch how it all ended I had to pay. I won't do that again.

pretty good murder mystery
Agreed with another reviewer that a distraction from the rather good plot was the rather pathetic tendency of the female copper to freeze when confronted with a murderer, letting that criminal get away. And also her passive aggressive relationship with the father of her child was annoying.

Trick!
As Prime Members we were happy to watch two episodes of this show two nights ago. The showings were designated with the "Prime" logo so it was free of charge. Last night we thought we would continue watching and found out that the subsequent episodes showed they were no longer "Prime" but you could purchase them! Very puzzling! Had to find out what was going on so I contacted Amazon and I was told that Prime Videos could change and lose their "Prime" category so that "more space would be available" for new additions! So, in effect, Amazon Prime videos could start out free, get you hooked, and then charge you for subsequent episodes. Watch out! I liked what I saw so in order to post this I had to give it a star rating (required) but I feel like I was tricked.

Spoiled by a badly written last episode
This is a nicely produced and acted series, imitating the more successful nordic noir series. It does a reasonable imitation, but fails miserably in the last episode. I had the impression that the producers told the writers to "wrap it up" in episode six and they wrote that last episode in a hurry.Suddenly, the main characters start behaving rather stupidly... In the first four episodes there were two police professionals (an older male and a young female) competing two show each other who was the smartest and better detective; they both did a good job of this, and it was thrilling to watch them putting their skills to good use.Halfway through episode 5, they start getting dumb... and stumble into classic clichés that make up the worst of Hollywood productions. It seems the writers ran out of steam and threw the good work they had done, out the window.SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!In the last episode, the young woman detective manages to knock-out the bad on a beach, as he was about to shoot another woman. He lies there on the gravel, his gun dropped on the ground. A smart character would get the gun, attend to the wounded woman, call for back-up and an ambulance, right? What does our heroine do, despite all her previously demonstrated skills? She leaves the gun next to the perp, helps the woman up, and rather than walk to her car a few yards away in a parking lot, decides to flee along the beach in the opposite direction! All the while, she does not call for an ambulance or back-up! They walk for a mile along the beach until they find an abandoned building and decide to hide inside it... Once inside the building, they pick the worst possible place to hide: an underground metal tank, with a trap door as the only way in or out! How stupid can you get?All the time, the detective is using her phone as a flashlight... but never calls for help. The bad guy wakes up, picks up his gun that was still lying there beside him, and runs after the two women. He sees them going into the abandoned building and immediately guesses they went into the tank. So he simply closes the door from the outside and leaves them there to die. Inside the tank, they can't get a signal to use the phone... but they could have used the phone anytime before that! Why did the writers do that? In order to write a big closing scene in which the remaining police officers decide to use a wolf to find the two missing women... The wolf turns from bad guy into good guy, smells his way to where they are, and saves the day! It is an irritatingly stupid cliché that could definitely be much better written.

Just a very well crafted crime series.
I saw this French series when it was on tv, although I must admit seeing it again I couldn't remember it much. Certain scenes I remember & the opening title, but it was like watching it afresh. It is a really great series which prompted me to get hold of the second which is equally as good as the first. I would highly recommend it to anybody.
