BernatBlanket Extra Gray Orchid Yarn - 2 Pack of 300g/10.5oz - Polyester - 7 Jumbo - 97 Yards - Knitting/Crochet

I knit hats that are given away through a program helping homeless people, so I want yard that is soft, washable and chunky (thinner yarns make hats that aren't as warm). This yarn works up great, is washable, and makes a good, warm, attractive hat.

I bought this to make an afghan for my niece. I have used Bernat blanket yarn with good results, and the really large Bernat blanket yarn with ok results (the yarn would tear too often). This yarn is in between the regular blanket yarn and the really large stuff. I used a 25mm crochet hook with the really big stuff and a 15mm hook with the regular blanket yarn. I ended up buying both 20mm and 18mm hooks for this project. The 20mm looks better. I made a blanket using the 25mm hook and it was too open. Be aware that the crimson color is a darkish red, not a fire engine red and not a maroon. It would be hard to match, but I was shipped two different dye lots that looked fine together. It's easy to work with too.

I bought this color since it was so much cheaper than the others and it's my first try at finger crochet. However, I didn't purchase what the YouTube instructions said: this is a bit finer yarn even though it is chunky and Jumbo 7 weight: it's not as thick or sturdy as the Bernat Blanket Big. IT DOES WORK FINE: I simply needed to adjust my chains to a bit smaller ones. I do really like the transitions of color and have completed the first few rows of my blanket (once I got the tension down ... loose ... loose ... loose). I'm please with this product: NOTE each skein is 97 yds and not the 32 yds the Blanket Big is. I am returning some of what I bought as I purchased WAAY too much but it's beautiful yarn and perfect for my first blanket!

I made a mother's day lap blanket for my Mom, who is always cold. I used a hand crochet technique (no hook) and the yarn was very easy use, very soft, and almost a terry-like consistency. My Mom LOVES it. Would definitely use this yarn again.

I adore the thickness of the Bernat Extra but hadn’t found the perfect colors until now. Not only are the colors and thickness/Jumbo7 perfect, they are CHEAP!!! 2/$13??!! I ordered 4 and am ordering 4 more tomorrow! So excited for my new blanket I’m making!
