So adorable!
I loved this book! The two main characters were so cute together and i enjoyed the best friends to lovers trope. There was very little angst, which i appreciated and a medium level of steam. 100% would recommend this book and author.

No supernatural, boo
While the lack of supernatural puts a damper on things for me, this story what still really cute, especially Zar & Asher’s initial obliviousness. I loved the scene where Asher used Zar as a chair. Despite the lack of magic or psychics there’s still an edge of fantasy to Sherwood’s stories. They feel abstracted from the real world. It’s like the How to Shield an Assassin series— not quite cut from the cloth of reality. Which, yay! Reality sucks. There’s a reason I read mostly fantasy & scifi. This book is 100% great escapism, so there’s that going for it.

Disappointed
I have to say that this author is one of my absolute favorites. Usually an auto buy for me. I love her humor with ridiculous situations and most of her books are definitely laugh out loud reads. Her characters, for me, are always well written and grab my interest and loyalty right away. That said, this book was disappointing. I know it was a bit of a departure for her, but I had trouble with it. Mostly because I dislike reading about characters that do not stand up for themselves and allow friends, and in this case, family to dictate how they should act. I did not like Asher. As an almost 30-year old man with a thriving business, nice car and his own home, he was an incredible wuss. I found it so hard to believe that he would keep getting caught up in blind dates arranged by his mother. For crying out loud, all he had to say was "I'm sorry but I'm gay, thanks anyway" and simply walk away. He didn't have to have any confrontation. As an aside, that was one thing the author never explained; how did he get caught up in each of these dates in the first place? If he would have stood up for himself right from the start he wouldn't have had these things happen. I think he caused most of his own problems. He was lucky he had such a strong friend support system, but he kept making them rescue him. Zar was a terrific character, but an enabler. I'm glad for the happy ending, but the confrontation with and between Asher's and Zar's parents was not pretty. Loved BFG though.Another aside and I know this is a little bit petty, but Zar placing a bet on his and Asher's outcome, under a fake name, smacked just a little bit of fraud since Zar would be able to influence that outcome. Zar was a police officer, he should have known better.I'm still a fan of AJ and I'll probably read the next book in this series because I liked the other characters. After all of the delicious books she's written, one disappointment can be overlooked.

3.5ish
This was an easy read even though Asher’s parents were awful. The switch from friends to lovers was surprisingly simple with only a few obstacles brought up although those (other than Asher’s parents) resolved drama free.

Such a cute story!
This book was so good! I just devour-read it and am so glad I did.Not only are Zar and Asher absolutely sweet and loveable, but the entire friend group is just written so well. I am actually looking forward to reading about each of the remaining three gay friends as they find their happily ever after.AJ Sherwood created a world where a tiny town is not only accepting of all forms of love, but that the town is rooting for Zar and Asher too.I also absolutely had a giggle fit when I realized homophobic and problematic character is named Karen.Literally the only issue I had with the book is that it was a tiny bit repetitive in some parts, but it doesn't really detract from the flow of the story or cause any frustration. It was just noticeable.Sometimes randomly selecting books on Kindle Unlimited totally pays off. This is one of those times. Read it.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
When I heard that this author was combining mm romance and home renovation, my two favorite things, I squealed with delight. How does life get better than that?!? This book took me about four hours to read and was both well written and well edited. (I only spotted a couple of very minor editing errors.) I thought that both Zar and Asher were awesome men. I loved how Zar did not hesitate or second guess anything once he realized his feelings for Asher. There was a reference that Asher would never reveal Zar’s real name but it was never disclosed. I’m guessing Balthazar. I would be embarrassed by that moniker as well. I absolutely loved Zar’s mother and could not stand Asher’s mom. The fact that her name was Karen cracked me up. His entire family with the exception of his brother Ryan were extremely toxic. Good riddance to them. The following were my two favorite quotes from the book:“I’ve given them every chance. How much more am I supposed to give of myself, of my own emotional well-being, before I say enough is enough?”“In this day and age especially, isn’t it more important that you’re with a good person than that you’re with a person of a certain gender?”

Cute but not that original
This is a cute, low angst, best friends to lovers book with a side of Asian boys’ love TV and a web cartoon that changes the course of these two men. The “renovations” part of the series title is very low-key for those of you who might not be interested in home improvement. It really features mostly as the business of the four friends who I am sure are each going to be the focus of a book. I thought this was cute but not up to par with her Jon’s Mysteries, UnholyTrifecta, or Warden and the General (which I would love to see more of, just sayin’) books or the Scales n’ Spells books Sherwood co-wrote with Jocelyn Drake. I’ll pretty much read anything by her, though, because I love her writing style.

Great!
As an AJ fan I read this without reading the blurb. Saw new series and clicked read. As normal I wasn’t disappointed. I was slightly confused about some of lingo. So I now have a rabbit hole to go down. (Love learning still at 36) the characters were amazing and introduction into this world full of detail. As stated there is a trigger for an evil toxic family but the rest is so loving you will not regret reading this book. Come on book 2!

funny, poignant, sexy
Love this new series. Just loved Ash and Zar they worked so well together. The writing brought feelings and emotions forward, both good and bad in a clear and thoughtful way. Prejudice and violence is there whether we realise or not, and we all should be more aware that it’s all our problem. Love, acceptance and humour is what should make or world evolve around.

Good book
I enjoyed this book and the characters. If you want a mostly fluffy romance with life and family issues. You will enjoy this book. I personally preferred her Jon mystery series, as there is much more to them.

Loved it!
The friendships between all the characters was believable and made the whole story flow beautifully.Friends to lovers trope written perfectly, add a drop of angst (not MC's) and you have a beautiful story and I cannot waitfor the rest of the guys to get thir HEA's.
