they are good little rods
ive had a few of these over the years. im an angler thats been fishing for over 20 years, these are in no way to be compared to our regular high quality gear, as some customers and reviewers have based the review on. They are indeed novelty fishing rods, that actually work for fishing unlike most novelties. The reason ive had a few of these types of rods is, every time i take someone with me into the woods or something, and i pull a fishing rod out of my bag, they are always impressed and want one. so i end up giving them away and buying a new one.they are good little rods, ive had some nice fish on them. as long as you dont compare it to your regular kit your sorted.mine i pack in my camping gear, when im out and about i have a rod to do a spot of fishing. My reel included wasnt as good as some ive had in the past. the reel i got this time is stiff. feels like im reeling in a 5lber with no load at all. so im going to have a look at the reel to see if i can fix it.Overall, its not a serious fishing rod, but it does work, and as an angler i like it.Treat it for what it is, a cheap rod, and it wont break. dont try too do anything daft with it.i would also recommend removing the line thats included and filling your reel with 2-3lb line.with thinner line you can get a cracking cast for the size of the rod.P.S dont buy the rods with the multiplier reel, those novelty reels do not work as a reel should. they are pathetic, stick to these ones with a fixed spool reel

Compact
Good fun on smaller species. Stronger than I expected. Comfortable reel to use

Disappointing as the most important parts are plastic.
I bought this for my husband's birthday as he goes camping a lot. As we opened the new pack, bits of the fishing rod (around the wheel area) fell onto the floor. It was made with plastic and not very strong and broken on arrival. We were not impressed. He didnt want me to re-order because if the fishing rod didnt get through the postal system without breaking, it probably wouldnt survive long in a backpack. It would be fine as a child's toy but we thought it was definitely not strong enough in a real life situation.

5lb brown trout
As a keen fisherman with a equally keen 10 yr old who loves adding fun to everthing he does i thought we would give this little rod a go not expecting much from it.So i changed the line to some dacron backing and 4lb mono and superglued one eye that was loose on.Fin managed to land a 5lb wild brown trout as its first fish what a battle

An entirely new meaning to the name 'Cat Fish'
I did not buy this to torment our local freshwater fish, rather to solve the problem of keeping an excessively playful 14 year-old cat amused, whilst acknowledging the advancing limitations of an aging body.Madam loves her toys, and no excuse to drag me into her world is too trivial, be it in the garden, or indoors. Her particular favourites are the toys that are suspended on lengths of string or elastic, and upon which, as I drag them past her, she will pounce, and ‘kill’. Unfortunate, as the string is of a fixed length, the game has its limitations, and the only solution seemed to be to attach the toys to a fish pole. However, they tend to be un-necessarily long, and take up space. This ‘pencil’ rod, has solved the problem – to both our satisfactions. In the garden, I can cast the toys distances that satisfy Madam’s demands, and when the game is over, I can reel in the toy, collapse the pole, and put it back in a kitchen draw. Win, win.It would also work extremely well for the less imaginative who want to use it for a little light fishing!

Neat little item
Very lightweight and small rod. The line is cheap and nasty but easy to replace. Occasionally gets stuck when trying to reduce in size but overall a neat little item have. Successfully landed a big koi with it!

A superb little tool that is unbelievably, still a serious, competent performer
Just brilliant. Strong and perfect for the purpose. The only shame is that the reel seat isn't a bit more able to accept standard reel feet, so you can use a better 1000 size reel, so that you can use the drag, which is not up to scratch on the included reel. Saying that, tighten the front screw down and use back wind and everything is soooo coool. I think that the reel is a sort of copy of a Silstar Tiny, from the late 80's. That being the case, the bail spring will definitely go, so even more reason to either replace it by elastic banding a better 1000 reel on to the reel seat or just use it for float fishing. A superb little tool that is unbelievably, still a serious, competent performer. Usual rule, use it within its limits and it will be just fine. I just wish Daiwa or Greys would see this niche in the market and make a quality, high performance version for £80.
