A Perfect Beginning Art History Book
This is the first book in the series that I have purchased in this series, but I have purchased the first 10 based on how much I loved this book. It's unique in several ways. First, the narrator is the artist, so in this book, Vincent Van Gogh is speaking directly to the child reader in a way that is easy to understand and is engaging. The artwork of the author in the book is cute and pleasant to look at. The cover even includes Van Gogh's signature flowers which serves as an attention-grabber.Each page has a sprinkling of biographical information, making them easy to remember and apply to the rest of the book.Another aspect that I love about this book is that they show a piece of a painting, point out a feature of it, such as the brush strokes, and then show the full painting on the next page so it isn't as overwhelming for the child. The artist points out a technique and then has the child get engaged with it, such as pointing out the swirls and curves in "The Starry Night," and it asks the child to trace the swirls with their finger. Each painting is used to direct the child to interact with it in an engaging way, and that is so meaningful to learning! The last pages of the book offer the child different activities. One painting is shown, and then there are four different questions/engaging acts to participate in, and also craft options are given on another page to extend the learning. My child really enjoyed learning about Van Gogh, and doing the craft projects at the end!

Great intro to Van Gogh
This book is a great way to introduce kids to art. It displays paintings by Van Gogh and points out details and techniques. You also learn facts about the artist and his paintings.

An interesting take on a beloved artist
Vincent van Gogh may be the most famous (or well-known) painter of all time. It is amazing to think he was not famous during his lifetime! I loved how this book explored less familiar paintings by van Gogh as well as the classics. We also loved the engaging suggestions and questions throughout!

cute introduction!
I liked the emphasis on brushstrokes! We read this super slowly because my kid insisted on tracing strokes on each page. A fun way to make it interactive!

Bring some fun into art lessons
The kids in my class love art projects… not so much art history. But these books help bridge that gap! This one tells all about Van Gogh with a focus on his work rather than his personal life. It was fun showing the kids his most famous paintings and we talked about why then thought some were more famous than others. At the end of class we painted our own sunflowers. Really appreciate having these books to help take art education to the next level!

Boring and dull
Not as described. Must be used in classroom setting. Not a useful gift. The pictures snd colors do not at all represent Van Gogh art.
