the other "A Good Day To Die
This is the second book of Jim Harrison's I have read: the other "A Good Day To Die." Harrison's writing style is different than most writers. He is a master of digression. In the middle of the main plot line, he will take off on a completely different (at least it seems that way to me) line of thought. Usually a bizarre little story unrelated to the story line. Still these digressions are interesting, and don't seem to get in the way of the main story line like one might think. While I find his style a bit bizarre, it is highly entertaining and works for me. My feeling is the Jim Harrison was (he died on March 26, 2016) a very intelligent intellectual, with vast experience at many levels of human experience covering the down trodden to the highest levels of societal interactions. He is certainly a "word merchant" of the highest caliber.

Last of the Hemingways
Thanks for the ride, Jim. Through the years I've read various works by Harrison. Though he's never been my favorite author - I think mostly due to subject matter - I've always enjoyed his writing style and sensibilities. I picked up Wolf shortly after his recent death, as much to honor his memory as to take a look at one of the high points of his early career. The man was a damned good writer and a person with an enviable relationship with nature, and an interesting relationship with people. He's of a generation that included Bukowski and Roth, Steinbeck and Vonnegut. And it shows. Read the book; it's good. Soul searching of a high order contrasted with the ultimate practicality. He was, I dare say, the last of the Hemingways.

and sexual escapades—definitely fun, definitely literary
My first read by Harrison, who I latched onto by way of fly fishing in my (our) home state of Michigan and a fondness for Hemingway. This is worth a read if you want to hear about early/mid-century drinking, fighting, and sexual escapades—definitely fun, definitely literary, definitely not something I'm recommending to my mother.

Not a good starter book for those just getting into
Hemingway esk. Dark, odd formatting, somewhat difficult to follow. Not a good starter book for those just getting into JH

Brief diversion
Not the best of Harrison’s works, but readable and a nice little diversion.

Great read...
I'd recommend the book to anyone who is a fan of Harrison's writing. Jumps around a bit but is certainly a "I can relate to that" book.

Great! Gasoline Rainbow similar
Reads like my own life. Check out Gasoline Rainbow by Joe Crowley if you like Jim Harrison. An enjoyable read and written from a loner male's perspective.
