My Big Girl Bed

Real kids make this book shine
My first instinct when buying this book was that I wanted something to help my own kids make that transition from cot to a 'real bed' (and not taking a detour into mum and dad's bed). What drew me to this book was that it used photographs of real kids instead of cartoon bunnies or other animals (or even cartoons like the classic Charlie and Lola, which are good in what they do). While some of the photos are stock photos (resourced at the back by an industrious author!) a lot of the photos are of real kids in their real beds. No actors (apart from the stock photos i guess). Why is that such a big deal for me?Well, for one thing it's great to see what real beds look like and there are heaps of them in this book. Lots of ideas for redecorating, as well as the ways these kids use their beds. Fun times, time out times or places to imagine.I hope this is the start of a trend using real kids and real places/spaces, because while it's great to read books with cartoons and so on, it's good for kids to see other kids in 'real life' - to gauge where they're at, the similarities and differences etc.One little criticism, although this still deserves the five stars - the paper quality/colour quality could have been a bit better. It has a matte finish whereas a glossy finish would have really popped! This comes down to a production question, I guess, but given that Karen Langdon has self-published this, I really have no qualms about promoting it and recommended it. Given enough sales, perhaps she will be able to write another book or re-release this gem. A hardcover version would be fantastic!

helpful for thansition for big girl bed
my daughter was having hard time understanding what was the meaning of getting a big girl bed; with this book really realistic pictures help her a lot; it is a very simple book but if the kids like it then is a win

A big hit for helping a toddler girl transition
Like another reviewer said, the pictures are not clean and photoshopped, but my daughter loves them more for the real-ness. The names of the girls on each page help her connect with them. My daughter loves to show me exactly what she has on her new toddler bed that matches what each girl has in the picture. Warning - you may end up buying princess curtains because one of the photos planted the idea! I’m happy that my girl got to participate in choosing what she wanted on or around her bed, and this book helped her make choices. In the book, on the last page, I glued in a photo of my daughter. Big mistake - she tore it out and wanted to do it by herself... over and over every night. I got out my craft supplies and turned the last page into a clear pocket so the photo can slide in and out. Needless to say, the book was a big hit for a girl’s transition to a toddler bed.

Helpful for transitioning out of crib
My daughter likes this book. It’s very simple and pages are super thin. Low quality but serves purpose. Wish it had more diverse photos of kids. But overall, it did help my daughter see other girls in their beds.

My daugher loves this book
My two and a half years old daughter always asks what are the names of the characters in the books. I have to make up the names which she remembers next time and I do not. In this book, all the little girls are named which my daughter loves. She also loves that these are real girls just like her. She often refer to girls in the book. I live to read in my bed just like .... does in the book. Very nice book! Pictures are not photo shopped but this does not bather us. It makes it more real.

but it's kind of a boring book. Plus my personal copy was faulty as ...
My girl didn't care about this book at all. There's no story, just pictures. It says that, so there's nothing misleading, but it's kind of a boring book. Plus my personal copy was faulty as a different story from a different book entirely was bound into the middle pages. Weird.

Great for helping with transition from the crib
My daughter loves this book. She loves seeing other girls in their big girl bed. She loves the picture we put on the last page of her in her big girl bed. She was having difficulty transitioning from her beloved crib and this book was a big help in getting her to like her big girl bed. When even bought a bed spread like one of the girl has on her bed in the book because she liked the one in the picture so much.

Great book really helped with transition
We love this book, the transition from baby to big girl bad was hard until this booked arrived, it really helped my girl to understand more that she is not a baby anymore.. and that she can’t go out of bad alone.. for us it worked. The only reason i gave 4 stars and not 5, is because i wish the book was with hard pages.. very easy to turn

A bit cheesy
Because it is self published with pictures of not great quality. BUT, as another reviewer pointed out, her child loved it and so did mine!
