5 star service, 2 star product
Before I review the Amber Submission Grappling Dummy I need to comment on how excellent Amazon's customer service was with this product. Amazon only charged about $40 to ship the 100lb dummy to Hawaii. Hawaii customers are often subject to very expensive shipping costs and $40 for such a heavy parcel is a great deal. Additionally, when I was unhappy with the product, Amazon processed the return quickly and paid all of the return shipping costs.Moving on to the actual review of the dummy; it didn't really meet my expectations. The first time that I put a leg lock on the dummy I heard a loud pop and discovered that a seam in the dummy had burst. This surprised me because I have an Amber Heavy Bag that is well built and that hasn't given me any problems. Also, the arms don't really work for any arm locks except for Americana's. The way that the dummy is sewn positions its arms in a permanent Americana position. There is less fabric on the inside of the elbow than the outside of the elbow, so the arms can't really be straightened without them bending awkwardly. Also, when placed in the Kimura position, the arms just folded and creased with no real resistance. It was almost like wringing out a towel.Additionally, the dummy does not sit up. It seems like there is too much weight in the torso of the dummy and the legs won't support it in the kneeling position.I already have a Title Legged Throwing Dummy that I use for takedowns, throws, and stand-up and I really like it. I thought that I'd like the Amber dummy just as much, but it didn't live up to my expectations. Maybe I got a defective dummy or maybe I'm too picky and I expected too much from the dummy. I'll admit that I settled on the Amber dummy because it was cheaper than the other grappling dummies available, but those other dummies might work better. The arms on those dummies appear to be sewn at a more neutral angle and the lower weight might make them better balanced.Regardless of how I feel about the Amber Submission Grappling Dummy, I have no lasting regrets about this order because Amazon provided such excellent service. I also really enjoy my Amber heavy bag, so I'm not going to give up on Amber Sports.

Great for a lot of different drills!

I bought this dummy to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but I have determined that the dummy is too big and heavy for that purpose. With the weight it is not easy to maneuver, and with its thickness I am not able to lock up most of the submissions I would like to perform.

Indestructible. That is both the bad news since it is completely worthless for any kind BJJ training
Indestructible, so far as I can tell. That is both the good news and the bad news since it is completely worthless for any kind of BJJ training. You might be able to practice americanas, but that is about it. Or, you can put it in a corner and stomp it once in a while to relieve your frustration at the thought of the wasted money. You can't do any armbar or triangle or anything. Among other things, the material is extremely abrasive. Of all the dummies i have tried, it is by far the most useless.
