Functional but not ideal.
Was hoping this would be a good solution for my sorely missed magsafe 2 cable now that I've replaced my macbook. This one will not solve your USB-C Magnet-less woes. One of the great things about the magsafe 2 connection was that it was reversible and it didnt matter in which orientation it was inserted. That's not the case with this cable. If you try to attach the cable "upside-down" OR if you insert the USB-C adapter (which IS reversible due to the nature of USB-C) the wrong way and attempt to connect the cable in the wrong orientation, you can feel the resistance of the magnetic poles pushing the cable away from the adapter. This was a surprise to me and frankly something I had never even put much thought into with the old magsafe 2, so props to Apple– it just worked.Adding to my frustration was the fact that even once you get used to getting everything oriented so the connection is actually made, the strength of the magnet itself is sub-par. As anyone who has owned a macbook with magsafe for longer than a year or two would know, the connection seems to weaken over time. The strength of the magnet in this cable is much like that except straight out of the box, while it's new.The only reason I'm giving it a 2nd star is because it does work and it allows for relatively quick charging, all things considered.

Nicely made, just didn't work
I bought this for my wife's 2016 Macbook Pro based on the number of positive reviews by verified purchasers here. Well, the one I got doesn't work. It looks well made--the magnet connects well, the little insert is solid and stays in place--but the cable doesn't power the laptop. Nor does the problem lie with the charger--the laptop works fine with the original USB-C cord.As I re-read the 5-star reviews today, I was struck by poor English grammar in a number of the verified reviews. I don't want to suggest a campaign to puff this product, but so many of the reviews sound like they were run through Google Translate that it makes me wonder. On the other hand, had this cord worked, I'd have left a positive review myself. So perhaps a large number of mistake-prone writers had a good experience with the cord....

It worked for around 30 minutes and then stopped working on a New 2017 15" Macbook Pro (Using the Apple 87 Watt USB-C Charger)I was excited that I was able to get the Magsafe functionality back on my New 15" Macbook Pro now that Apple decided to ditch the MagSafe functionality and go with all USB C port design on all their new models. This unit has a tiny USB C magnetized plug that fits very well, sticks out very little. Magnet is strong and the cable easily and securely seats every time you bring the cable near the magnet. (both plug and cable port have magnets). Design Downside is the magnet side of this cable is NOT REVERSIBLE Unlike Apple Magsafe that could be connected in either direction****NOW THE BAD**** THE USB-C PORT THAT WAS USED WITH THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT CHARGE THE MACBOOK ANYMORE, I EVEN TESTED THE 3 REMAINING USB C PORTS WITH THIS DEVICE AND WAS UNABLE TO CHARGE THE MACBOOK. I replaced the cable with the Factory Apple USB C cable that came with my Macbook and it is only detecting charge from ONLY from 3 ports. The Port that I initially used the Magnetic setup is non functional even with Apple Cable, and I just confirmed via battery health meter app, that my 87 watt charger is also damaged because even though my Macbook is showing that it is charging from the other USB C ports, the battery is losing charge. Only showing 6 watts of power during idle use and then charge only goes up to 25 watts when streaming 4k videos with screen at full brightness. This lack of output is not even enough to keep the battery at steady level. In 15 minutes, I lost about 8% of battery so I concluded that the 87 Watt charger is also toast! This is the problem when venturing outside of Genuine Apple or Apple Certified products. You never know if it works properly or if it is going to harm your expensive device. Sure Apple is greedy and their accessories are overpriced but I can at least rest assured that they are designed to work properly out of the box and Apple stands behind their products when they don't function as intended and cause harm to the device.

Didn't fast charge my note it, it slow charged it..
This was advertised as fast charging, but I couldn't get it to fast charge, in fact, it wouldn't even do a normal charge, as soon as I plugged it in, I get a pop up message saying to use original cables with my phone as the charger is to slow to charge correctly(Note 8). I tried different plugs/adapters to see if it just wasn't the cable, but it did it all with the Fast Adaptive chargers, QC2.0/3.0 cigarette charger, and USB-C to USB-A adapters.I really liked the design and the fact that the USB-C part is slim and doesn't stick out pass my case, but the fast charge was the disappointment part. Had to return this one for the price I paid, wasn't going to hang onto it...

Could use some improvements
The magnet is too weak, and detaches if you look at it funny. The connection is also directional, but there's no notch to prevent you from plugging it the wrong way.Mine also stopped working after a few months of light use. Bummer. On the good side, the small metal connector doesn't protrude a lot once you unplug the cable. And you can still easily pull it out.

It’s not reversible. I thought I would have the functionality of the old MagSafe charger. This one only goes one way. I’m sending it back.

Just a regular charger
I have a Pixel. It charges just as fast as it says it does but when I pull the charger off, it pulls the piece inside the phone out as well. Defeats the purpose.
