We have more in common than we think
Great read. I love the AMBW storyline. It’s romantic, funny, heartfelt and inspiring. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

A man that is attentive
I loved this. Nia!!!!! Keep doing your thing!!! A man that is attentive to your needs is what every woman wants without having to say anything. SAZUKI AND DEEJ. They learned from one another and made themselves better. Her parents were written beautifully, loving and accepting and could see the way he loved her. I loved how it showed the dynamic between his family and hers. Akira was something else. Ashanti a mess and he was respectful when he let her know it was still Dejonae he wanted. The intervention of the husband's...I was tooo tickled and could imagine each one and their demeanor. Wow that was fast. I was too tickled. Overall a great read. I am headed to Nova and Adam. I love how they were introduced in the story...Of course I am behind on the reads but being an educator and being able to relax and enjoy Nia's writing is worth it....ohhh can we get another kind of jaw cause we are about to chisel away.....🥰😁❤️

Same script, different book. Plot Spoilers Below.
I've read three of the books in this series and they were all the same. If you don't want the plot spoiled, skip to the last paragraph.Independent and feisty black woman comes to the attention of a handsome billionaire, who is instantly smitten. Mr Money Bags is further smitten when he witness Miss Independent being amazing to his secret child. She on the other hand, is completely unimpressed with him, but secretly finds him hot. He then finds a way to blackmail the object of his affection into working for him. Testy yet UST filled working relationship evolves into spark filled actual relationship. We are treated to a scene or 2 of smut before something happens to shake the relationship up. Because no one is emotionally mature enough to communicate and work through their issues (and the fact that the relationship is built on coercion and maybe a little kidnapping), they break up. After at least a chapter of our lovers being miserable, eventually friends and family convince the two idiots that it really IS love and they are Meant For Each Other. Happy ending ensues, along with a sequel hook. The only difference is that in the Right Sign, it's Dare's niece instead of him having a daughter. Otherwise the books are identical beat for beat. It's very Dark Romance coded but Safe(ish) For Work. I won't complain about the non consent implications because I read and enjoy books where there's absolutely no consent but the author still pulls out a HEA. And credit where credit's due, there's no cliffhanger. I just found the lack of variation in plot boring and I do not like 3rd Act Breakups. I'd probably be more forgiving if the spicy level was higher. Oh well.

I loved this book ! The story line is just too juicy that I can barely put the book down.

Actually, A Good Billionaire Romance
I am NOT a fan of the billionaire hero romance.Outside of it being way overdone, the power imbalance is such a turnoff. I especially hate the plot in which the heroine in desperate financial straits needs sexy billionaire to save her/family/business from ruin and becomes said sexy billionaire's living sex toy then they fall in love (ugh). Seriously just call such arrangements sex work and get on with it, which frankly would be a lot more realistic and I'd enjoy more.Anyway, Prickly Romance isn't that sort of book and it actually surprised me at how good it really was.One thing that reviewers of this book don't realize is author Nia Arthurs doesn't write explicit sex scenes. She writes push and pull tension and more vanilla/fade to black. One of the best parts of the book was the heroine Dejonae Williams. I loved her moxie and how she refused to let some billionaire just boss her around. She wants or needs nothing from him, but she's absolutely over the moon with his deaf daughter Niko. I can see why Ryotaro Sazuki, said billionaire classical musician from a prominent Japanese family, fell for her even as she refused to be intimidated by him. He can (and does) throw his money and fame around because he wants her help, and she lets him know her boundaries and has no problem telling him where to stick it:"To: Ryotaro SazukiFrom: Dejonae WilliamsSubject: Screw YouLastly, I do not plan to ever keep my opinions to myself. Just because I don't agree with everything that comes out of your mouth does not mean mean that my opinions are invalid. Your fear of hearing dissenting opinions is a mark of questionable character. I trust that you will reflect on yourself and what kind of employee you're being to the people who have no choice but to suffer at your company. Lastly, thank you for trusting me to do the 'smart thing', which I've decided is to stay the hell away from you.Regards, Dejonae Williams, Director of Kiss My Black Behind."When I first read this part I was like "you go Girl!" and much of the book was her standing up to him, and standing up for the deaf children she champions. Of course Ryotaro is confused, haughty, yet admiring of this gorgeous dark-skinned spitfire who does something to him.Unfortunately, there's an ex-wife who is messy because she didn't miss her water until the well ran dry, though in hindsight being a Black American woman marrying into a traditional Japanese family didn't help things much.Normally, heroine hijacking has me pulling my hair out. Don't give me this badass heroine then have her fold when the evil ex or other woman tries to stake a claim. That's why I'm only giving this four stars instead of the five it should have had. I needed Dejonae to fight for her love or at least talk with Ryotaro before giving up.With all that said, this is probably my favorite billionaire romance. There's a lot to like here, especially the strong family and women friendships. Niko is a wonderful character too. She loves her father and she loves Dejonae too.

I don’t know if I like it or not
Deej aka Dejonae annoyed me to the point where I had to put the book away. Expecting a single father to erase the mother of his child out of his life is just naive. Towards the ending her naive behavior and the way she communicated had me slapping forehead. To Sazuki I get that the Japanese culture and the way of communicating has a lot to do with respect but he was way too patient with his ex wife. She used the love he and Dejonae has to NIKO and he just let it slide.I would have liked to know what happened to Akira that she stereotypes Black people. The story is good but against the ending I was really struggling.

Invested but...
This was a good story, I liked the characters and the story. It was sweet and charming...However I didn't like some of the FMC personality traits. She was immature at times and it rubbed the wrong way. The male character and her at these times didn't mesh for me. The lack of spice was annoying as well due to the way they wanted to devour each other I was expecting more. It felt immature towards the end the story and I felt disappointed in the main characters interactions as the story went on.I nearly didn't finish but due to the story having sucked me in I pushed through. It was good but I won't be reading anymore from this series

Prickly Heat
Deej and Ryo did not engage on a good start, he practically threw her off his piano when she stood in for his late arrival at Belle launch event. His signature cold exterior did not impress her or being surrounded by large group of security. To next meet up again when Deej and Vanya meet in an alley to rescue a child being bullied and Deej running to her rescue, she has a quick connection to Nikko who she finds is deaf but also can defend herself impressed her. She signed with Nikko which made her happy to communicate with until a entourage arrives and out steps the rude Asian man from the Belle event she is shocked he is young girls dad.The build up to this relationship with Ryo and Deej was exhausting with their constant antagonist engagement to each other. If Ryo had sat down with Deej and discussed his interest in her vibration device it wouldn't cause this prickly situation when they engaged. Ryo relationship with hus ex wife was correct for his daughter, but she had a different end to want to reconnect with him and daughter to reignite their relationship. There is a lot in this story about the deaf community and how they are overlooked in music industry. A great story to bring this awareness to forefront.
