In the winter of 1634, young Jesuit priest Paul LaForgue (Lothaire Bluteau) was tasked with leading a party on a 1500-mile mission west from Quebec to bring Christianity to a Huron village. The perilous wilderness journey for the father and his Algonquin companions is strikingly limned in Bruce Beresford's acclaimed, gorgeously photographed story co-starring Aden Young, Sandrine Holt, Tantoo Cardinal, August Schellenberg; Brian Moore adapted his novel for the screen.

German Bluray is a great upgrade
Got the German Bluray version, it’s the best video quality I’ve seen compared to both of the prior DVD versions (although the remastered DVD is a huge step up), and I didn’t have to switch to Region 2 settings on my universal Bluray player to watch it, which suggests that the German Bluray is actually all region. The best part was that the in-movie subtitles when they’re speaking native languages still show up in English, not in German, so if you’re considering the Bluray upgrade go for it.

The new 30th Anniversary Edition restoration looks fantastic
This is a classic film directed by the great Bruce Beresford. Forget the older DVD which looked terrible. This is the one to get. The new 30th Anniversary Edition restoration looks fantastic and looks like Blu-Ray quality.

Enjoy: )
Raw, gritty under-rated gem.Dances with wolves -unromanticised edition. No punch are spared in the arguably more realistic and haunting tale of a Jesuit priests' journey to what could only be the heart of darkness at the time. A sobering flip-side, antidote to the warm emotive pastiches' of costners (deservedly) well praised epic. It's short, sparce and rather grim, but also more visceral with it's brutality in parts. Enjoy : ) .

Excellent book translates to a great film
Excellent film interpretation of a great book, one of Brian Moore’s best. The film stays true to the book in most areas but inevitably cannot quite capture the gritty and physically exhausting life the Indians lead nor the attempt of the missionary to adapt to it.

It is always nice to see a very well made movie concerning Native Americans, and it doesn't make things worse that Black Robe takes Place in a place and time that seldom is treated. Nice setting, great acting and engaging story.
