Powerful, Handy, Reliable, Efficient, Quality Built, Yard Tool
I wanted to wait until we used this chipper for a lot of brush clean up before writing a review. We rely on the experiences of other consumers reviews for so many purchases I felt it important to give this a fair assessment. How else do we know if an item, especially a higher priced one, will meet our expectations. This chipper shredder is not only meeting our expectations, it exceeds them. We recently moved to a property which had been neglected. The work to bring it back under control is being done by 2 almost 60 y/o people, my husband (male) and myself (female). It was important for us to have reliable equipment to do the job.The chipper is easy to move around, starts with one or two pulls from either of us, chips 3" diameter and under branches w/ease, shreds leaf and debris well, and has a huge bag that needs to be emptied after about 30 minutes of continual chipping/shredding.PROS: Powerful Compact Reliable Easy to Use Portability Loads of Safety Features Quality Design and ConstructionCONS: Very Loud (use ear protection) Top feeder has tendency to "spit out" small pieces (use eye protection) Full Bag is HeavyThe good def outweighs any of the negatives. I highly recommend this wood chipper for home use. You won't be disappointed.

Works well minor flaws.
This works well no issues with that but it has a design flaw. This is a piece of outdoor equipment which some people would have a place to store it inside. If you leave it outside during rain it will collect water in the cylinder and hydrolock the motor. I shut it off to collect more wood while it was raised ning came back and it wouldn't start. Pulled the plug it was a cylinder full of water. Cleaned it out and it started up fine. Simple fix it should come with a cover and a notice about this. I had an old grill cover I use for it outside but keep it in the shop when it's not being use or being trailered. The mulch bag works for about 3 uses then it's garbage. Get a welder to make you a bolt on adapter that you can clamp a hose on then get a tarp with some weights on it's sides run the tube under the tarp and it will make you a pile without saw dusting the neighborhood.

Solid performer
After weeks of rain, I finally got a chance to use my Dirty Hand Tools Chipper Shredder and wow.....what a hoss! Initially reluctant, I decided to go with the DHT product because it was a good match up between price and durability. My product came well packaged without any apparent harm. There was one nut loose in the crate what was from the deflector shield and that was easily re-attached. Personally I was a little confused with the oil fill position and it was a bit challenging to fill the oil chamber but I wound up figuring it out. Overall it came together fairly easily. The Kohler engine is a workhorse. My first pull on the crank was soft and it took me about 4 attempts to get the pull firm enough for the motor to turn over. That's because the flywheel is pretty heavy and that winds up being a really good thing because it can handle some pretty tough materials. Like any machine, you have to learn how to work with it. It took me a pile or two of brush to get the hang of feeding materials and the "feel" of the motor and she can be a bit heavy to roll around. The weight, however, is very helpful with operational stability. I had no problems with any undue movement of the equipment during operation. The only time it has choked out is when the materials are too big or you don't have the engine at sufficient RPMs. I've really had solid performance on this product both with larger branch (i.e. -trees) chipping as well as the shredding of smaller clippings from shrubs, etc.I cleaned up 4 brush piles in my back yard that were each about 1/2 cord in size and the total job took about an hour. I give it 5 stars.

Ran great for 2 hours, now dead due to cheap steel and bad design.
Read the reviews, totally ok wit a chipper that can only do 1”. Although really, it can do a bundle of small twigs as long as they fit in the 3” tube.Day two of using it, it siezed up and the blade wouldn’t turn. Took it apart and found the there are 4 bolts that hold the chipper unit onto the motor, 2 of them had completely sheered the threads (maybe it was not tightened enough, or just cheap steel. This had caused the blade to then gouge into the steel so it wouldn’t turn.Defect of cheap materials, just a waste of money.

Great machine easy start does the job
Easy to assemble except for one bolt and nut of the 4 required to attach the shredder basket. Has a great Kohler engine which is strong enough to chip 3 inches branches. the branch port has a good rate of feed that is not to fast to stall the engine. the shredder basket also tends to suck in the small stuff. However it does not like material that is over 1//2 inch in dia.

will not do 4 inch has a hard time and bogs down with 3 inch
This product is a great product it will chop up to 3 inches but it has to be short pieces or it will bog it down it says 4 inches but I would imagine it would have a really hard time with it the bagger option is a great option really works well and helps keep the area clean well as clean as it could be when dealing with leaves twigs and branches

a great tool
Out of the box the assembly instructions are clear and generally quite straightforward. The quality of workmanship and materials are high and assembly went very smoothly. Of note, there is a suggestion that two persons are required. If you're willing to cut the box away rather than lift the machine out, it's easy for one person to do it. Once assembled and filled with oil and gas, the little beast started up on the first pull. In both shredding and chipping it performs well making a nice mulch and dispatches leaves and the smaller prunings from our apple orchard without a hitch.
