A lovely heart warming story.
A lovely story. The writer captures the attitudes of 1960s well. The description of The Hebrides which brings the area to life. The story line is good without being overly sentimental or soppy. There is an unexpected twist to the tale which adds depth to the story.

heartwarming
After a slow start where I struggled to get into the book, I became absorbed into the story and the linking of the lives of Nell and Dougie. Having visited Lewis and Harris a few years ago, the book projected me back to its wild landscape and I felt I was there with Nell and Dougie, making me want to revisit the island. It was at this point in the book that I wanted to keep reading and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a book that will remain with me as it is so life affirming.

Little Wing
Took me a while to get into this but glad I kept going. The main characters are so sensitive but brave in trying to confront the past. Secondary characters like Gordon Help the story along and bind it together. A lovely, sensitive read.

Magical and captivating
I was drawn to this book when I saw it was partly set in Harris. I'm not always a fan of dual time period books but this story moved effortlessly between the decades. The writing style is descriptive without being over the top and the storyline grabbed me immediately.I was intrigued by the main characters and trying to guess the link between them. This is an unusual and truly magical book. Well worth the sleepless nights not wanting to put it down!

Read it - you won’t be disappointed!
It’s rare to find a story that balances plot, setting, and characterisation with such equilibrium and harmony. North manages this with seeming effortlessness that you forget it’s fiction. I didn’t want the story to end. This is my first review. As I loved this story so much I was compelled to share. The sentence construction adds to the readers’ absorption in the novel as the voice of the characters come alive in your mind. What lacks in the odd grammatical inaccuracy is far outweighed by a beautiful depiction of the complexity of the human condition.5 stars just doesn’t do it justice. Thank you North. My first but certainly not my last.
