Absolutely gorgeous
We have watched the PBS programs to learn about OR when we moved here 12 years ago, and especially enjoyed the episode that features the photos in this book. I bought it for my husband for Christmas this year. He's hard to shop for but he loves books and particularly loves the artistry of the photographers. I can't wait to see his expression when he opens it! It had to be back ordered for several months, but made it here in time for Christmas. Well-worth the wait!

One of a kind book 📚
I watched a show on pbs about this book. I was so intrigued that I decided to search amazon for it. $75 was a little steep for my budget. That’s when I noticed that goodwill.com had one copy available. I was ecstatic. It came when promised and was in excellent condition! I have been very satisfied. This is a one of a kind book. I am planning on finding several of the spots where the photos were taken and then taking my own, present day, photos. It’s a book I plan on passing down in my family.

A peek into the history of the Columbia Gorge
Wild Beauty: Photography of the Columbia River Gorge, 1867-1957, is a rare opportunity to see the Columbia River as Lewis and Clark must have seen it. Through these stunning photographs the reader is given a window into the river and watch as it changes into the place we know today. The world is a much better place because these pioneer photographers with their bulky cameras, glass negatives and field developing braved the elements to capture the Gorge and its native residents before the civilized world obliterated nearly all traces of that society. It's one thing to hear about The Cascades; it's quite another to see the raging torrent that limited river travel until the Cascade Locks and then Bonneville Dam hushed their roar forever.Wild Beauty is a book that anyone who loves the Columbia River Gorge must own.

Beautiful
I bought two because I liked it so much. The other was for my son who doesn't live in the area anymore and I wanted him to have a reminder of the beauty of the Gorge!

Just moved to the Columbia River Gorge area and wanted to get some perspective on the area and came across this great book. Fascinating pictures and write ups covering 120 or so years of the gorge's history from the first white settlers to the building of the dams.

Wild Beauty: Photographs of the Columbia River Gorge,
After viewing the TV program on Oregon Public Broadcasting I purchased the book so I could continue to enjoy the pictures at my leisure. The book is very well done and meets my expectations. We are fortunate to have such a book to preserve that part of the history of the gorge that is now under water from the many dams. Through this book generations to come will continue to experience the gorge through the beautiful old pictures.

Beautiful Book
This was purchased as a birthday gift for a man who lived in the Columbia Gorge most of his life, and as such was a bit of a historian. He loved the book and learned a lot about the history of thegorge that he didn't know. The photos are amazing, and it is a wonderful book. It arrived in perfectcondition, very quickly.
