Good Book for the Novice
This book is a good book for the novice mask maker, however, the information has been surpassed by online resources, including u-tube and other online print sources. Much of the book is for juvenile maskmakers, and includes paper masks. Also, it has an old copyright, so, if you are a serious maskmaking student, look elsewhere for tutorials that include more modern or sophisticated techniques. It is a good resource for teachers, but not earthshattering for adults.Harriet Heywood

Love this fun book for maskmaking
Finally a book that gives me all kinds of different ideas for making masks. Unique uses of different supplies and materials that practical and easy to find. Easy-to-follow instructions. Lots of photos and inspiration. There are instructions for simple masks made out of paper plates or paper bags and more involved out of papier-mache, buckram and wire. Excellent instructions. One of the better books on maskmaking.Good purchase for me and will be for you, too.

Nice craft for adults and teens
I bought this book, plus two other mask-making books and the Make A Mask kit and bundled them for a nice crafty Christmas gift. Well liked!

mask making
This really is a very disappointing book. I really do not recommend one of the mask making processes she describes, of putting plaster gauze directly onto your face, unsupervised by a professional mask maker, and definitely not in front of your mirror on your own at home. Lets not forget the inexperienced student who decided to wrap his whole head in plaster bandage because he wanted to make a cast of his head, only to be rushed to the casualty department at the local hospital to have it removed! There are far better and informative books on mask making out there, this is not one of them. Take a class with a professional mask maker before you put anything on your own or other peoples faces.

Disappointing
This book is truly dreadful! If you are looking for inspiration or to learn techniques, this is not the book for you. The very few (black and white) illustrations are poorly presented, the masks themselves are amateurish, and all pretty much in the same style- naive in the worst way, without charm or skill. Badly made masks, poorly written text. Buy Benda's book on mask making if you want to see a real mask artist at work, and be charmed by his engaging and informative text.
