I had one years ago. This is a perfect replacement. Setting the blade is a learning curve. I place a wire of the desired shave thickness under each end and place the planet flat on a smoothe surface. Let the blade drop to the surface and tighten the lock screw. Make a few test strokes to check even thickness.

Good product for small projects, which is why I purchased it. It works splendidly. Also, I give it my personal "C. W." award. ( Cuetsy Wootsy ) So, it's small, functional & cute. Of course, cute may appear an odd adjective for a wood working tool, but there ya have it.

This is a light weight but agile tool for small precise work. The blade is good quality tool steel that sharpens well and holds its edge .The throat and blade adjust requires careful attention to achieve exactly what you want.Great value for money .

Get this if you want to be irritated. It is complete trash. Next to impossible to adjust an accurate depth of cut or to get the blade straight with the body. Body is stamped steel with big radii in the corners exactly in the place you want a square end for accuracy. I can't imagine what the plane would be useful to do.Adjustment knob is too small and moves blade around as it is tightened down. It has a big round knob on the side that contacts the blade, so big that the threads barely grab the adjustment plate. Formed body has a bur along the complete inside. The worst part: the bottom of the plane is NOT flat across the slot for the blade. The slot was punched before the forming, the forming warped the slot so it is not flat, has a raised edge and high and low spots. I would need to do so serious sanding to get the base flat before using.The only redeeming quality about this plane: the blade is sharp.Don't buy.

I would really give it a two star because of its flimsy frame. The blade is not very sharp requiring hard hand pressure which is difficult with the flimsy frame. However, I was making a one and done purchase for the lowest price possible for soft wood. For being the lowest price I can find, I give it another star.
