Question 1

The light on the charger goes off after about 3 seconds. It did this right out of the box. How do I know when it's fully charged?

You may have a defective kit like I received.  My probes won't hold a charge, read over 10F off my other thermometers, and they claim I overheated a sensor because it was not giving accurate readings in the first place.  That causes this issue, they tell me. Customer service spends at least 1-2 days answering even the most basic of questions. They have asked me for my home address 4 times now. That's a week of time with their customer support. I've been working with them for over 5 weeks now to replace my defective kit, but they have spent 99% of their time trying to void my warranty. Since the company is so bad at customer service, you will be out your $ and a month of your time like me if you try to use your warranty. I recommend a different product after my ordeal.

Will this work in a fully enclosed electric smoker?

Yes it will. The WiFi bridge will need to be next to the smoker.

What temp can the extender withstand? When cooking with a cast iron dutch oven or a Weber type grill, how close does the extender need to be?

Accepted Answer

The Xtender itself is a typical electronic device. It is made of plastic and should be on a safe normal temperature working surface. With most cooks with the Stick in a grill/oven, we recommend it be within 6 feet. However, for a dutch oven with a lid (and if it's placed inside an oven or grill) It'd probably need to be within a feet for best performance.
