Immortality: A Love Story (The Anatomy Duology, 2)

I oved This Series!
Anatomy: A Love Story and Immortality: A Love Story are wonderful books! Well-written. Interesting premises. Definitely love stories between two special people. Interesting because Hazel has the desire, accomplishments and credentials to be a female physician in a world where women are not admitted to study as physicians. She carves her own way. The intrigue that she lives is thrilling. I gave these books a 9+ out of 10 in my rating system.

The book itself came damaged but not the dust jacket which is insane. The plot of the book is beautiful!

amazing book!
When I found out there was a second book, I ran to NetGalley to find out if I could request it. To my absolute delight, they accepted my request and I was able to receive the first book in exchange for my thoughts! When saving a life leads to her arrest, Hazel seems doomed to rot in prison until a message intervenes: Hazel has been specifically requested to be the personal physician of Princess Charlotte, the sickly granddaughter of King George III. Soon Hazel is dragged into the glamor and romance of a court where everyone has something to hide, especially the enigmatic, brilliant members of a social club known as the Companions to the Death. As Hazel’s work entangles her more and more with the British court, she realizes that her own future as a surgeon isn't the only thing at stake for her. Malicious forces are at work in the monarchy, and Hazel may be the only one capable of setting things right.I did not want to give too much away of the first or second book so I used part Schwartz’s description. I personally liked this book more than the first. I am more of a light academia person (which is the vibe this book gave off to me) than dark academia (vibe of the first book) so I enjoyed it a lot.I saw the author’s instagram post of her describing the book without spoilers. There were parts that the author described in the post that I expected to play more of a part in the book that did not. However, I still enjoyed that aspect of the book thoroughly. The duology is definitely two of my favorites for the month of January, possibly the year depending on how this year goes. I definitely recommend if you enjoy historical fiction with 18th/19th century science vibes.

Great Ending to the Duology
Anatomy: A Love Story was a favorite from 2022 and I wanted to see how Hazel's story ends. The story picks up pretty much after the end of Anatomy. Hazel is reeling from the loss of Jack and trying to focus on her goal of becoming a surgeon. She thinks she sees Jack everywhere, so she focuses on helping others and learning more about surgery. After she saves a young woman's life, she is arrested and assumes she will die in prison or at the end of a rope. However, she is saved and is requested to be the personal physician of Princess Charlotte who is suffering from a mysterious illness. Hazel is eager to save the princess, but is not excited to become part of the royal court. She discovers a group of people who call themselves The Companions to the Death and while she was eager to leave the idea of immortality behind, she may once again find herself intertwined with Dr. Beecham's vial.I really enjoyed this story. My favorite thing about the story is that Hazel continued to be a strong character and didn't let the loss of Jack destroy her. She continued to pursue her passion and wants to be more than what society demands she become. Her grief over the loss of Jack felt genuine and was beautifully written. The whole story was wonderfully detailed and I couldn't stop thinking about it after reading it. I enjoyed the addition of the Companions of Death and what they brought to the story.I did, however, feel like something was missing from the story. I didn't love it as much as Anatomy, but I thought it was the perfect ending for Hazel. I would definitely recommend it.

Perfect ending
I read Anatomy: A Love Story and couldn't pass in finding out how the story ended. Immorality did not disappoint. The heroism found in the main character is inspiring and beautiful. Well done!
