I take one or two capsules an hour before bed to prevent night time acid reflux. It is effective in combination with lansoprazole. Sodium alginate is a unique treatment for GERD in that it floats like a raft over the top of acid/liquids in your stomach, thereby blocking the acid from coming up and entering your esophagus. There is no other ingredient that has this effect.Many cases of night time or "silent" GERD are caused not by excess stomach acid, but by the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) falling open or not closing properly during sleep. The LES normally opens only when we eat or drink, and then closes back up immediately to keep the contents of our stomach from moving up into our esophagus and throat. When the LES malfunctions due to damage, extra abdominal weight pushing against it, or from it simply relaxing too much while we are asleep, acid reducers and acid blockers (PPI's) will not completely solve the problem. When you have LES malfunction, GERD is not caused by "too much acid," but instead it is caused by the normal acid in your stomach escaping into your esophagus. Sodium alginate helps by physically blocking it from traveling upwards.I still use a PPI (lansoprazole) in addition to the sodium alginate so that my stomach acid will be more base if it does manage to get past the sodium alginate. This combination works well for me. I've had GERD caused by LES malfunction for years, so I've learned a lot about it and how to prevent it. My other secret weapon is cream of wheat. Cream of wheat is finely milled and turns into a fairly heavy "paste" when cooked. I eat a bowl of instant whole grain cream of wheat every night right before taking the sodium alginate. The cream of wheat, besides being delicious and nutritious, also seems to help keep the acid down where it is supposed to be. I went from having severe night time GERD, in which acid was burning my throat and even getting into my lungs once or twice a week, to getting mild to moderate night time GERD once or twice a month. So I definitely recommend giving sodium alginate a try, especially if you experience night time GERD.

This product does not include on the advertising page, a picture of the ingredients on the bottle like most products do. It also completely omitted one of the ingredients under the "Ingredients" listing on the advertising page. This product contains Magnesium Stearate. I am allergic to this ingredient but didn't find out it was included in the product until I checked the bottle, which again, a picture is not provided. Beware of information provided and be cautious.

Arrived well- and securely-packaged, as described, and fairly-fast. However, this suppement didn't seem to be very effective for the health-issue purpose I ordered it to address. Hit and miss, sometimes, on supplements. However, there were no other issues or problems with this product.Great Seller, though!

This is a good alternative to alginate powder or chewables, which tend to get stuck in the teeth like spackle. I take one after each meal and it typically reduces my reflux symptoms. It's not perfect, but it works better than anything the doctor has prescribed such as Omeprazole.

My very good primary doctor suggested this product to help with my extreme acid reflux problem. I have only been using it for a couple of weeks and am keeping a diary. This is what I have discovered so far, it is hard to find the product and it is a bit expensive. This vendor delivers what they promise in a timely manner and my comments are to my use of the product and not intended to reflect upon the vendor or even the product itself.It makes a barrier between the stomach and the esophagus which keeps the acid from coming up per reviews. It has a 4 hour window of efficacy so taking it before I go to sleep when my attacks come later in the night is not useful. I have taken it when I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and feel a bit in need. My diary shows two different occasions when I woke up in early stages of reflux, took 2 or 3 pills and then was able to lay back down with no further problems. Might be a coincidence but am going to keep using the product for a few more months and continue my diary. The difficulty and price would not be a problem if it fixes my long term problem which led me to a false diagnosis of lung cancer recently.It has no flavor so I gave it 5 stars for that.I hope this helps someone.
