You will want this when the electricity goes out
The lantern has proven to be a must have during power outages. Its LED light is so bright it illuminates the entire room. I bought an extra one so I didn’t have to carry it around and could light another room. Battery life is great so far. Easy to insert the batteries and operate the lantern.

This really works as the description implies.
The lantern is small and compact. The batteries are easy to install. I got this for winter emergencies when the powergoes off. One of these lanterns is strong enough to light my large living room. I was so impressed I ordered anotherto light my kitchen. The cost is nominal for the security it gives you.

6+ Days of Battery Life as Promised
I'm really impressed with this lantern so far, but I wanted to clarify some things that seem to be causing confusion within the reviews.First off, this lantern WILL get 6+ days of battery life as long as you use FRESH batteries. Batteries that've been in the lantern while the lantern sits "unused" for days or weeks or months AREN'T FRESH. With that in mind, I'd honestly suggest not keeping batteries in this lantern until you absolutely need to use it, but I understand that's easier said than done given how tricky it can be to put batteries in this thing.Second, let's talk about that little blinking green light that, according to the paper insert included in the packaging, supposedly doesn't drain the battery. Now, I'm no expert on batteries, but I have to assume that the complaints about battery life in most of the reviews have something to do with the gradual drain this green light causes. I suspect this is a case of less-than-perfect English in the package contents, and I think the idea is that the flashing green light doesn't cause SIGNIFICANT battery drain. That said, yeah, it definitely slowly drains the battery over time. All the more reason to not put batteries in until using the lantern. Not a perfect solution, but that's how you get the most out of your batteries.Honestly, I think a lot of this could be cleared up by simply including some sort of battery tab you could insert to keep the batteries disconnected until actual use, because, yeah, it's not fun trying to put batteries in this thing, and I suspect that experience is even worse in near or complete darkness. If there's any way to include one of those little battery pull tabs while ensuring it's designed and durable enough for repeat use, then I think the manufacturer of this lantern could significantly improve the reputation of the product. That said, you'd then be without the flashing green light to help you find the lantern in the dark, but I think I'd prefer having some sort of smaller plug-in rechargeable emergency flashlight for initial use during a power outage so I could have just enough light to load the batteries into this lantern so I'd have six or more days of light at my disposal.Or the manufacturer could just simplify the battery compartment. Why you need to insert that rod into that hole so the entire compartment turns when you lock the bottom in place is beyond me. Heck, even changing the color of the battery compartment to something lighter so you could see the hole more easily would go a long way in improving the experience.Anyway, I highly recommend this lantern, but I also have a bunch of rechargeable emergency flashlights plugged in, and I'm not keeping batteries in this lantern until I absolutely need this lantern's services. If you keep my use case in mind, then I think you'll be really happy with this lantern. Don't go in expecting this lantern to completely defy the laws of how electricity works, though.BRIEF EDIT FOR 02/04/2023: The batteries lasted 21 days on the lowest setting. The brightness obviously decreased significantly over time, and the lantern is less useful as an actual light source as you get further into this length of time, but this could be an incredible lantern to have if you're lost and need a signal of sorts that could be seen from a distance and in darkness.

I love my lantern very much, but:
I got my AYL LED Lantern this morning in the mail box. The boxed lamp was carefully packed in a box in a padded mailing bag that easily fit into my mail box at the curb. I like my new lantern very, very much …. After I broke down and read the directions …. . After reassembly, I set it on the table in a room with lights off and BOY was it bright … even with the de-fuser lens !!! I nearly blinded myself on the low setting. It made me think of what I said to my Eye Dr. after he hit me with his search light … “The eclipse is over, you can look at the sun now”.SUGGESTIONS: Read the instructions before your power fails, to find out how to unscrew a square base AND how to put in the 3 D batteries in a “special” way. (It would make sense if you were an electron … or an engineer?) Next: Try to FIND the dark and almost-invisible molded-in battery’s position icons molded into the dark plastic case and mark them, e.g., with some white out, etc..When you order any of the devices (1) read the directions, (2) carefully look-for and (3) locate the “almost- invisibly dark” polarity instructions molded inside the dark case. … 2 of the D batteries are put in one way; the third D battery is reversed. After that … You will now realize you do not understand how the “square” base came off by “unscrewing”. I will now cover that in detail.Yes, you can unscrew a square base cover??? But, only with a 10 or 15 degree turn. When you lift off the square base please feel free to note there is a dark projecting rod molded into the dark base that fits into a dark hole in the base of the lantern’s guts.*** Yes, the guts of the lantern swivel slightly inside the lantern to accommodate the slight turning of the base.

Small but Mighty
We lost power recently and didn’t have anything other than three battery candles to light the house. They have soft lighting and weren’t great for what we needed. The next day I ordered these lanterns. We have four now and they are bright and clear. They also have a “flashing” component which would be great for signaling distress, if need be.We are set up for future outages this Winter and are very happy with our purchase!

TON'S OF BRIGHT LIGHT FOR A SMALL UNIT
I was going to buy two, but I thought I would just get one at first. I was surprised at how small it was.It has two brightness settings, one at 1000 lumins and the second at 1300 lumins---now let me tell you the 1300 is awesome---very pleased. I gave it 4 stars for battery life, I mean how do you know how long it will last on batteries. But I prefer regular alkaline batteries to rechargeable because how do you know how much time is left in a rechargeable? I'm going to order a second light.

compact and bright
Great light, easy storage and convenient for winter power outages. White light, not yellow, which is great. Requires D batteries. I ordered 3. On one the power button is a little finicky but I won't return as it does turn on, but takes a few tries, then when brightening, takes another few tries. I will keep it, and see for now.
