Sugar + Spice Cookies: Creative Recipes for Home Baking

WOW this is a good book. On my first look through, I marked nearly every page as a recipe that I wanted to try. After working through a few of them, I can say that I'm extremely happy with the results so far.I'm the kind of baker who always adds more spices to recipes - if it calls for a tsp of cinnamon, I add a tbsp. If it calls for 1/4 tsp of nutmeg, I'll add double that. This book, however, uses the right amount of spices - which is to say a LOT. The cookies come out absolutely packed with flavor and aroma.Add in that there are so many utterly unique recipes. A lot of baking books are just all the old standards - a chocolate chip, a peanut butter, an oatmeal raisin, a double chocolate. Snooooooooo-zer. This book, on the other hand, has wonderful, new, and exciting combinations of flavors and recipes. The author is extremely creative in her use of different spices and ingredients, it makes for tons of cookies that I have never seen anywhere else.And add in on top of all everything else that the recipes are clear, well-written, and easy to follow. Most of the recipes are fairly quick as well.One final note: it's not mentioned in the book, but I've found with every recipe that I have tried that it's easy to freeze the dough-balls if you want to make a batch and eat them over a month.Overall, grand-slam. A must-have for everyone who loves spices in their cookies.

Great book of recipes. Plan on making several of them. Also great baking tips are included. Amazing find! Exciting flavors!

Full disclosure: I have been a follower of Megan on Instagram and have always loved her recipes. So, when I heard that she was writing a cookbook, I knew it would be good. It exceeded my expectations and beyond. For one thing, you will not find the boring chocolate chip cookie recipe every book has. I get it, chocolate chip cookies are a classic, but I think between the blogs and cookbooks, the world has enough of those. Megan's book, on the other hand, takes classics and reintroduces them to you with interesting flavor combinations. From spices to fresh herbs to chocolate, this book includes cookie recipes that are guaranteed to impress. So far, I have made her Maple pecan shortbread bars, Nutella Swirl peanut butter cookies, and lemon thyme cookie bars (using leftover thyme from Sunday supper), and everyone asked for seconds. I even put some of them in the freezer to surprise my family with freshly baked cookies later. If you are an avid baker and are in need of delicious and visually impressive cookie recipes, add this cookbook to your collection. It will not disappoint.

Impressive, droolworthy and stunningly beautiful! It's pretty rare that I get a cookbook that I want to make more than a couple things out of but with this one I want to make literally EVERY. SINGLE. COOKIE. There is so much variety but they all have a flavor twist and I kept thinking, after each page turn, "oohh that sounds so delicious!" Megan's recipes are gr eat and reliable, I've followed her for a while and was so excited to get this book. It exceeds my expectations. If you are a cookie lover, you need this!
