Cheap vice but poor quality. Needed modification.
Vice is cheap and is useful on my bench drill after modification. The vice had vertical and horizontal play in the moving jaw. Side to side movement isn't so bad but the up and down movement meant clamped parts wouldn't sit flat in the vice. I took it to work(engineering shop). And re machined part of it to alleviate up and down play. It works fine now but is a little big for my bench drill table. I'm not sure you'll get better for the price. It's not very sturdy but works for me.

Its OK but not alway work for me
its cheap, therefore I should not complain...But before you buy it think what for you need it.place to keep your material is small and about 2cm its sometimes not enough to hold.I've found out that for my needs I will need at least 5 cm tall...

As expected to perform
It is sturdy. It is strong. It clamps things as you want. The jaws move slightly so u can clamp irregular shapes as well as straights. Overall a good tool and if you haven’t got one you need to get one as the practicality of it is obvious as soon as you begin using it.

Serviceable but not very well made
I bought this item for holding guitar bridge pieces so I could accurately sand them. The jaws have a little lateral play in them which is not a problem for my use.I doubt this would last very long in an engineering workshop in moderate to heavy use.A good piece of hobbyist’s equipment but not professional engineering grade.

Save your money, buy something better
Useless as a machine vice, more a toy. Jaws knurling is decorative not functional. Screw tightening poorly aligned, so difficult to use. Machining generally very poor. Screw fixings used poor quality/undersized so won't last long. Save up your money, buy something not made in or of china.

Outstanding quality and value
I purchased this clamp to use as a "third hand" when drilling objects on a pillar drill stand. The weight of the clamp, along with the all-round sturdiness, makes it ideal for keeping objects in place while they are being drilled. The vice itself is well-engineered, so everything is held firmly in place. I think that this represents excellent value for money.

Material to make into a vice
Positive: made from cast ironNegatives: very poor quality machining a lot of sloppy movement in the jaw making it un-usableHowever I have re-machined the castings to produce a working vice also beefed up jaw clamping plateSummary: consider this vice as castings to make a vice clamp screw is okish

Excellent value
Surely the best measure of a company's performance is their attitude when things do not necessarily go as planned; my order didn't and their response was faultless. The 4" clamp is an excellent buy. Very robust and perfectly functional, excellent value. Well done A.P.Motors
