I prefer this mic to the Sure SM58
I read the reviews and thought I'd give this mic a go. I am glad I did because I love the sound. I had been using a Sure SM58 in my home studio as well as a Rode condenser mic. This Sennheiser brings out a more pleasant tone in my voice. The SM58 now sounds somewhat harsh in comparison. You do need an additional pop filter though. With a pop filter and then singing about 2-3 inches away, this mic sounds just beautiful. I actually like listening to my voice now and via a studio monitor the mic helps me to sing with a more pleasing tone. Love it.

In the end I opted for a non-switched version as I think that’s safer for my uses. Great mic.
Lovely open airy sound, almost condenser like in some respects. Not quite the same as an SM58 but better for spoken voice, which is what I need them for. The presence lift is higher and the proximity effect isn’t quite so pronounced as a 58. By comparison 58s sound a little more weighty but also a little more confused lower down. E835s are also built like little tanks, very similar to 58s in that respect, so I anticipate a long life. Both great mics for sub £100 though, just a little different in tonal character.
