This Salad Maker Set from Savant Kitchen is designed to make the most out of healthy eating. It not only sheds water from greens, but slices vegetables, fruit and cheeses right into the bowl. The unique mandoline lid includes 7 interchangeable stainless steel blades to chop, slice, cut, grate or dice. The blades conveniently store in the lid when not in use. The spinner features an easy rotating handle with a quick stop button. Includes an outer bowl with an inner removable strainer basket. A good looking set that's great for dicing, good for spinning/storing salad, and okay for cutting up salad veggies.
I was looking for a salad bowl / effective salad storage and a mandolin, and happened upon this, which looked like it would do both jobs!Overall, I'm impressed by this set and at the price - It looks good, you get many attachments, and it does many jobs, representing excellent value if you use them all. It does take a bit of practice, but hopefully over the long term, it'll be a time saver. However, of course, you can't store salad away and then decide you want to slice some veg with it. :) I've not used a salad spinner or mandolin before, so I can't actually compare them with others, only with my experience of traditional ways of preparing salad and chopping veg (with a knife which is v blunt these days!).As a 'salad maker', the container is a good size for 4 salads, just about, which is what we wanted. It is a snug fit though (assuming you have quite a few leaves), and for us, it'd be a sizeable salad but not the only thing we're eating in that meal. If the salad was the only part of the meal (e.g. cheese salad), then I think it'd fit 3 salads. Due to the aforementioned snug fit of salad, you need to be mixing up the different salad ingredients as you go through. The spinner is easy to use, though you do need to hold the lid down as you're spinning it or it'll move about. The slicer attachment is helpful for cutting up cucumber. Everything else was easier slicing it myself. I don't need my lettuce to be coleslaw thin, for example. Tomatoes are too squishy for this. Onions are excellent in the dicer, but fiddly/slippery to try and thinly slice. As someone else mentioned here or on another product's review, you cannot slice the last parts of the food item as you're holding it, so sometimes it's not worth the hassle of fitting in the right attachment. The colander and transparent bowl look good, so I just poured away the water and served it like that! So, besides the peeler, there are 2 main attachments to the other 'lid' - one for dicing (2 sizes) and one for slicing and grating. I've not used the grater yet so can't comment. If there's one major timesaver to be had, it's the dicer! This is fantastic for dicing halves of potatoes (don't try massive potatoes or you'll just get stuck, ha!) and onions etc. If you do these often, especially in batch cooking, then you will save lots of time and energy! I slice onions for most meals and from now on, you'll find me dicing! You only need to close the 'lid' down twice and that's a whole veg diced/chipped. The slicer is good for cutting up veggies (e.g. carrots, parsnips) evenly and more thinly than you might do by hand such that your meal cooks quicker than usual! Although the components are sharp, there's a little tool to get bits out and there's no need to be afraid.A few considerations: All the attachments fit into the bowl, but what do you do with them when using the bowl?! I think we'll end up having to find tupperware containers for the different bits. Also, every time you dice some veg, it'll go into that big bowl! So you need to wash a big container up every time you use it, when you might just want to dice an onion. This is the main downer for me, so perhaps this is more suitable if you plan to do your slicing and dicing either on a larger scale (i.e. for a large family) or mainly for the use of salads when you want to use such a bowl. A minor comment is that I can't get the hang of the peeler - it feels too imprecise, but maybe it's my small thumb! In terms of my set, I'm afraid that one of the attachments does not fit in completely to the lid - that is, you are meant to press some 'buttons' in to release it, but it can come out without it. I can still use it, but perhaps not 100% the safest.Overall, it seems worth the purchase in the week that I've had it. It won't replace knives any time soon, but can help in the kitchen, especially if you dice hard veg a lot and/or if you eat a lot of salads and perhaps want to prepare some to spread over a couple of days.

Fiddley and complicated
Well I wanted a salad spinner, thought I'd give the additional attachments a whirl. Not for me. Stick to a good sharp knife. This is unnecessary, complicated and not sharp enough for what I needed. (tomatoes, garlic, ginger). Got a basic salad spinner and reduced headache at quarter of the price. Should have listened to my husband in the beginning!

like you get with the nicer dicer
I would have given it more stars but the square blades do not come in a small size, like you get with the nicer dicer, so you cannot chop things up too small, but other than that it is great. A lot of attachment, yet to try the mandolin but looking forward using it, and creating good foo.

Well designed & well worth it!
All parts are well made and sturdy, not in the least flimsy like on other similar devices. You can tell design has been a priority in the making of this mandolin and all the seperate elements store well in the base unit. The blades are sharp and slice through the toughest vegetables with ease! Additionally the seller is on hand via email should you require any assistance or need advice. Excellent!

Practical, nice to look at, good quality
Arrived well packaged. The bowl is a good size for a large salad and the spinner works well. The wide variety of attachments are good quality. Easy to clean with bit of warm soapy water, unfortunately it doesn't seem to be dishwasher safe although it was not advertised as such anyway. I love it!
