Great Filter!
Fikter is slightly loud but way quieter than my failing Aquaclear. I was skeptical at first, as the filter clogged within 24 hours. Turns out that's just how bad my previous filter was. I rinsed and reused filter for 3 days before I changed it. This thing picked up that much more suspended solids than my aquaclear, water was crystal clear. I'm on week 2 of my next cartridge and it's almost time to change, understandable as I have a heavily planted tank and there was a lot of debris. 2 thumbs up, I don't like that it's not as customizable as an aquaclear, but by God it will clean the water column.

Great Filter, Many Options & Great Value
We purchased the “Aqueon 06117 QuietFlow 50 Power Filter, 250-GPH” by Seller Aqueon for our 50 gallon fish tank / aquarium. This filter set will arrive with everything you need to install and run your filter. If you are somewhat new to having a fish tank / aquarium, you may wonder while you are browsing/purchasing your filter set-up if you need to purchase any other items not listed; don’t worry that you need any other parts, pieces or tubing, because you won’t need to purchase anything else. The set arrives in quite a few pieces that are very easy to put together:• Filter Housing (the main filter container);• Filter (or Cartlidge) with a convenient finger tab on top (this finger tab is priceless when you are removing your old filter and replacing it with a new filter!);• Biological Cartridge Holder (the plastic piece that holds the actual filter inside of the filter housing);• Filter Pump (attaches to the bottom of the filter housing);• Filter Tube Plate (attaches to the bottom of the filter pump);• Filter Tube (attaches to the bottom of the filter plate).• Filter Cover (Suggestion: don’t put the cover into place on the filter housing until you have the entire filter housing, etc. together and inside of the tank with the full set up!).If your fish tank has a somewhat large lip around the top don’t worry – ours does as well and the filter housing should fit around the top of the tank – although you may have to tilt the housing to install it. Chances are, when you tilt the housing you may have to reattach the filter pump and tube, because they probably will fall off. Not to worry, it only takes a second to push them back on.Before you actually plug in the filter, I would suggest that you pour some non-chlorinated water into the filter until it is full, then plug it into the electrical socket. Basically this ‘primes’ the filter so that it does not run without water inside of the housing and burn up the pump. The chances of this happening is small, if the pump only runs for a few seconds without water – but why take the chance?[NOW you can put the cover on – once the filter is running and water is starting to circulate]In case you are wondering why we bought a 250 gph (gallons per hour water flow rate) filter for our 50 gallon fish tank / aquarium – we did a lot of research prior to purchasing the filter. We decided to populate our fish tank with Mollies; these fish are community fish that are live bearers. They apparently do not like a high flow rate in their tank, so we settled on a 250 gph filter. Typically, you would look for a filter that is 4 to 6 x the # of gallons in your tank = the GPH filter you should look for. So, in our case, a 50 gallon fish tank is: 50 (gallons) x 5 (average gph) = 250 gallons per hour (gph) water flow.We have had our new Aqueon filter up and running for just about 2 months now and everything is running great! If you have live plants growing in your tank, they may occasionally loose a leaf with will suck up and cover the bottom of the filter. Just remove the leaf and everything will be fine. I would not let a bunch of leaves to accumulate on the filter tube.I was very pleasantly surprised when I went into a local feed store here in our town to see that the price that we paid here on Amazon for the filter and replacement filter cartridges (biological cartridges) was much cheaper than it was in the store! Great for our budget!Thank you for taking the time to read our entire review. We hope that you found this review helpful and we have answered any questions you may have about this product. We hope you have a blessed day!Mr. & Mrs. "Jr." Aqueon 06117 QuietFlow 50 Power Filter, 250-GPH

Solid build, great air flow control, louder than expected.
The air pump is built solid. the air flow control is easily adjusted and steady. the accessories were excellent and allows for multiple arrangements. Only complaint is the noise level, it is advertised as being 'quiet' and it is loud enough that I built a carpeted box to put it in to cut down the sound in the room.

Aquatic Filter
This product is easy to clean. I like the replacement filters for this product and the ability to wash off other parts. Pretty good suction. Does the job.

QUIET flow for 5 months....
Nice and quiet for about 5 months... then it sounds like an air compressor in your living room. Once the filters are gone, I'll never buy an Aqueon again!

Okay
Ive had 4 of these for one tank which I set up in 2016, so plan on buying a new one every 2 years minimum. Everything is fine, I unplug it to do a water change, and the motor just won't come back on or it tries and fails. I would like to swap brands but I have 20+ of the filter inserts.

Filter works perfectly
This is a quiet sounding fish tank filter and it works very well. Easy to change the filters and pretty strong suction. Works well in my 40 gallon tank. I would recommend this tank filter.

High powered
This filter is fantastic. I’m using it in my 40 gallon. Easy to clean easy to replace the filters and I like the fact that there is that second small filter inside that also helps remove algae. It is quite quiet. My only complaint is that there is no way to turn down the intensity of the stream. Other than that it’s awesome.

Extremely Poor Quality
The long propeller part falls off when filter is dirty. I installed it less than 3 days. The attached piece is a big issue. This is the second one with the same part issue.I repurchase this because I already purchased the filtersI don't get how greedy the manufacturer isThis is best filtration system once workingSo upsetIf it falls off when I am not home it will scare my axollotas

Leaks and is super loud after 2.5 months
Well, I was super happy with this filter for the first 2 months of having it. It was very quiet and very effective. After about 2 months it started becoming very loud and no longer quiet. I read that a dirty impeller may be the cause, so I took it all apart carefully and cleaned it all. Impeller wasn't even dirty, honestly nothing was really dirty. It still makes a terrible noise that's now distracting to have in our living room. While doing a water change yesterday, (under 3 months), I found that it has a crack where the motor is held on. I'm assuming from the vibration during use? Anyways, it's spewing water out if it and all over the place. It's such a pain because I'd really like to replace it with something that won't break in 3 months, but I had already bought a years supply of filters for it which would then go to waste...Absolute waste of money

Buyer Beware!
I bought this to use with a brand new Aqueon 75 gallon standard aquarium as an addition to my canister filter. It DOES NOT FIT. The rim of the tank is too wide to get the filter to sit low enough to the water to work correctly. This is best suited to a rimless tank or one with a rim of 1/2 inch or less 3/8 inch would be best. The reason for the new Aqueon tank is due to trying to press this one down on my original tank which cracked it. The impeller housing also has very small clips that hold it to the main body. These will break if your tank is too wide. I found this out and had to return the item.
