works well for me
The reviews are pretty funny – half say the masks are too small and half say they are too large; half say the material is too thick and half say the material is too thin. I think the Aqua Designs mask is pretty good. I wear mine over a baseball-style cap, like in the primary photo here on its Amazon page. It stays in place if I pull it up high enough in back. It is a little tight then, but has to be – that tightness is what keeps the mask in place. How you plan to wear this mask appears to be really important with respect to whether or not the mask stays in place. If the back of the mask does not go well up toward the top of the head, it will slip down. I should add that with how I wear the mask, it does not cover my nose well, which is okay with me because if it did cover my nose, my glasses would fog up. The Aqua Designs mask is cylindrically-shaped with no curves or contours at the top or bottom. Mine is size XL and is 18.75” long and 10” wide (so the diameter is about 6.37”) when laid flat on a tabletop (unstretched measurements). I wear a size 7-3/8 hat and the XL fits fine, when worn as described above. With respect to how well it prevents sunburn – I have to wear sunblock on my skin under the mask to give adequate protection. But, the Aqua Design mask prevents sunburn better than a Buff mask I have, even though both are rated for a UPF of 50. The material in the Aqua Designs mask is noticeably thicker/heavier than the material used in the more-expensive Buff mask. I like the Aqua Design mask well enough so that I bought a second one.

It’s XXL in length, not collar size!
They left out the fact that the supposed XXL size is longer in length, but the collar size is the same as the other sizes. I ended up getting an alteration by cutting 3.25in off the bottom of the gaiter, cutting it lengthwise, then adding the cutoff portion to enlarge the collar and hemming the rough edges. Now it fits an 18-19in neck.

Heavy Material
I ordered three different brands of face gaiters (i.e. neck and face masks) from Amazon for use outdoors for UV protection and as face masks as needed during the Covid 19 pandemic. Of the three brands I ordered, these Aqua Design gaiters were the most expensive at $20 ea. The others two brands ordered were MCTi ($8 ea.; 2-pack) and BOAO ($5.50 ea.; 3-pack). The Aqua Design gaiters, while the most expensive, are certainly the heaviest and the longest of all three brands. Heavy material which will certainly keep the sun out; I'm not questioning that. I live in Houston and it's HOT in the summer (100 deg. + sometimes) and the Aqua Design gaiters are a bit too heavy for me. Being the longest gaiters purchased, they are a little awkward around my neck to use solely as a face mask as required. The other brands were lighter weight (i.e. cooler) and are shorter (not so bulky around my neck). If you plan on wearing your gaiter as shown in the Aqua Design advertising picture, up over your face and over the back/top of your head, this length is good. But if you're planning on wearing it as a neck gaiter to pull up as needed for a face mask, I suggest a shorter gaiter. And during the summer, a lighter gaiter is nicer too.

Different from a Buff
I haven't worn a Buff in a while because I lost it, but I used to wear it a lot, and I just bought a new one (Buff UV, specifically), so I could directly compare it with this one. They are quite different, with different pluses and minuses. The Aqua Design neck gaiter is of an extremely light and breathable fabric. I have not had a chance to torture test it in harsh weather, but it scores very high on basic comfort. I left it on my neck for 12 hours and completely forgot it was there, and I have very sensitive skin and usually hate synthetics (I'm a merino guy). It is completely possible to breathe unobstructed even with it covering your nose and mouth... air goes through it like it's not there. The fabric is not super-stretchy, but it's stretchy enough to get over your head without discomfort. The biggest downside is that the fabric is extremely slick... so slick that it slides right off my head in any bandana or do-rag configuration, because the fabric is so slick it won't stick to itself and hold a knot, and won't grip my hair or skin. Therefore it can only be used in a configuration and sizing where symmetrical elasticity alone will secure it... as a headband over the ears, as a balaclava, or as a neck gaiter. In contrast, Buff fabric is much more cottony and will hold on my head through friction, and hold a knot, allowing many configurations. But Buff fabric is also no where near as cool and breathable as the Aqua Design. In conclusion, this is a quality product and offers distinctive functionality from the "leading brand", unlike the many cheap knockoffs.

Good quality and fit.
I previously ordered other masks that were much less expensive, but they were too small and not flexible enough. I do believe you get what you pay for. This gaiter costs more than six of the others, and is well worth it. It is high quality and both the liner and outer material are comfortable and the flexibility is perfect for me. These gaiters come in actual sizes and the chart they provide was very helpful and the fit was perfect. I wear glasses and over the ear hearing aids and the ear straps on my other masks make my ears sore and have dislodged my hearing aids. I wore a paper mask inside this gaiter as a liner and it was great. You pay more, but the quality is so much better I am very well pleased and grateful to Amazon for their return policy. I plan to order another of these soon.

Very Comfortable!
Bought this primarily for sun blockage for which it has been excellent. We are on the water in kayaks which puts you really close to the water and all the reflected sun compounding the sun's effects..The XL fit is generous which is a plus since I have a large head. (Not freakishly large, just above average- 7 1/2 to sometimes 7 5/8 hat size). The material is very smooth and feels good on my skin. Not itchy or fuzzy. I've been wearing it outside in sub-freezing weather too.. It helps with the cold but I give it only 4 stars in that department. For extreme cold maybe a different material would be better. The overall quality is excellent. I would buy again. In fact, I may buy the same product but in a different color!
