Artcoe Ruling Pen

Not had one of these before. Had some failures with masking fluid in the past. Both the paint on type (too thick) and the drawing gum type (rips the paper ). Been really ticked off with the stuff. Messed up lots of watercolour paintings. So I thought I’d try one of these - mainly due to the handy video review someone called Moe made - thank you Moe 😊. Nice handy size pen - works REALLY well. Can get some real thin smooth lines - whiskers etc. (I bought some new masking fluid at the same time, blue and brand name beginning with V 😉, works great with the pen - up to now). For less than a fiver I don’t know why I didn’t already have oneif these pens. Fab. 😍

The media could not be loaded.  As you can see in the photo and the video it can create very thin and crisp lines. For a ruling pen at that price, it is a great value for money. I used thinned down acrylic paint. Will definitely buy again and highly recommend. I created a quick video tutorial for you that I hope you enjoy and learn from.

Nice little pen, just the right size, well made. Will draw lines so thin that the limiting factor is really the surface that you are using, rather than the pen. Keeps the ink well away from the ruler, giving a nice clean, fine line.

dont spoil any more brushes use this pen its quick easy and clean the more you use it the more you get used to it.

after trying to apply masking fluid with a brush for grasses stems etc with no real joy i heard about these ruling pens, and although i was doubtful thay would work i am actualy delighted with the results, spot on

It took me ages to track down one of these, to use for a variety of art and model-making purposes. Part of the problem was not knowing what to ask for! But it is simple and neat, and cheap!

I'm just hoping that my art teacher doesn't read this, because he's banned the use of masking fluid by his students. However, how can one paint the sea and surf without it? This pen allows control over where, when and how thin or fat. Really good. I'm hoping too that I can use it for drawing with Indian ink ...we'll see, but I don't see why not.
