One of the all time great Batman stories, it does have one small flaw however
I did not expect to enjoy this that much. I expected to find out what happened to Jason Todd because I knew he died and then I knew he was back as the Red Hood which for those clever clogs out there might seem a touch odd since he had been in the ground for going on a few decades in real time.I loved this. It couldn't have been better, except for the end which we will get to. The Red Hood is fantastically clever, witty, confident, a good tactician and most of all someone the criminals are terrified of. It is the opposite side of batman. Instead of no killing and stop all crime the Red Hood's philosophy is you can't stop crime and you can't stop people being criminals. So he kills, he tortures and he steals only to sell it to other criminals if he helps his overall cause. He isn't a villain though, he protects children, he stops crime and he hates 'the freaks'. It is a very interesting duality and there is a great sense that Batman is both happy he is back and horrified at his way 'son' has become. The overall plot arc is very clever and moving. It is well reconned into other plot lines too so what is only one volume becomes a weaved story over multiple years of publications. Now to the reason it has four stars. This has spoilers. The reason Todd is back is because Superboy punched reality in anger and made Todd come back from the dead. yes that is the best DC could come up with. It was utterly disappointing, i would have preferred nothing at all over that and it just hangs over the story when you think back on it.I still wholeheartedly recommend this story, it is one of the best but keep in mind that someone at DC needed a serious smack for that last little bit.

This is absolutely brilliant. 5/5 stars
This is as cool as Batman stories get. The dialogue crackles with wit and sass, the story offers the highest of stakes and tension, and of course, it brings back the worst of Batman/Bruce's many dark moments - the tragic death of Jason Todd at the hands of the Joker.Told with dynamic aplomb, with sumptuous art and beautiful lettering, this is a must read. The heroes have never been grittier, the villains are having an absolute blast, and the pathos and tragedy never quite overpowers the dark, sarcastic humour of Black Mask and of course, the Joker.I loved this story! It's just about the perfect Batman tale.

Essential reading for fans of the dark knight.
This book is stunning, it tests batman's moral code in a very intriguing way that makes you almost think that batman is in the wrong. This story solidified red hood as my favorite batfamily character he is so cunning and mysterious and the climax with him, batman, and the joker is one of my favorite moments in all of comics. If you watched the animated movie you won't get that much out of this, it's basically the same story with a few minor changes and different plot points. I loved most of the side characters/cameos in this story Black mask was genuinely hilarious and i thought his inclusion was lots of fun, nightwing showing up was a fun surprise, but i gotta say i did not like Deathstroke in this. his entire reason for being in this story is for the reader to say "hey look! it's Deathstroke." and thats it, he has no major reason for being in this story.red hood's origin story at the end is a little complicated and convoluted which i did not like that much but it doesn't really hurt this score that much i still think this story is, and deserves a 5/5. if i could say one big problem i had with this book, it would probably be the art, sometimes the art is amazing and sometimes its not, specifically with how red hood is drawn in this comic, he doesn't look that cool a lot of the time. All in all this book is Incredible one of my favorites and nothing will change that, the writing is just superb and i would recommend it to any fan of the dark knight.
