Merkur v Edwin J
I have had several shaves with this now , uusing badger shave brush and either Derby or Bodyshop shaving cream.Whilst there are benefits to the longer handle I think the Edwin Jagger (faux ivory handle) razor is a slightly better shave. The Merkur definetely allows better access to difficult to reach places but when you hold both in your hand the EJ is obviously a better engineered product and it has a heavier head. Is there an Edwin Jagger long handle out there that I have not seen ? If you are reading this and know of one please leave a comment.Having said that if you like the longer handled razor this is a very good product overall.

This razor has a nice balance and heft
This razor has a nice balance and heft. It has a short handle which some people may not like. It's very easy to use and to keep clean. The head doesn't obscure the I & II markings on the blade which allows you to get full value from the blades. I've been wet-shaving with a safety razor for years, and this is currently my favourite shaving razor. I get razor bumps and razor burn with cartridge systems, but not with this.

Very impressed
Used to own a short handle closed comb razor which was good to start on, but felt I needed to switch to a long handle open comb.- The open comb means that it glides better through shaving cream and gives a closer shave.- The long handle (for me) makes it much easier to use than a short handled safety razor.- I didn't need to shave 'against the grain', simply shaved 'with the grain' twice and it was enough for a very close shave. This is good as I have sensitive skin, so whenever I shave against the grain with any razor, I get razor burn.- It works better when you have exfoliated over the shave area and used pre shave oil to loosen up the hairs, otherwise it tugs on the hairs.- Only criticism is that it doesn't come with any sort of case to keep it in or travel with, but as a product, this was such a good buy.

merkur 25C razor
I have a number of Merkur razors and I find that this one suits me the best it is well made, light, easy to hold, gives a nice smooth close shave and the slim head allows one to shave easily in awkward places. Also it is very easy to clean etc. And with its simple screw off head it is easy to change blades and leaves little danger of the blade becoming loose when shaving.I simply cannot see how this design could be improved. This razor is also available with a straight bar.

Excellent!!!!
I'm a lazy shaver, only shaving once a week or so, using a standard classic safety razor - taking ages to shave - with repeated rinsing and un-clogging. So what a treat, this "Rake Edge, open tooth" razor works a treat, it flew through my one weeks growth in a quarter of the time, with no problem. Recommended if you don't shave too often. A nice quality item too, and arrived two days from order. Recommended.

Give it time-results are worth it
I tried out the safety razor after reading it cut downs reactions. It does take time at least a month or more to get used to shaving this way but the results are great in my opinion.

Lovely DE razor. Long handle balances nicely in the hand too. Merkur are among the best manufacturers; their products are gorgeous.
