Great product that does a great job
Quality product and although a bit pricier than simple tube/bucket set up it was worth it for the way it made short work of clearing up gravel muck from a 65L tank without draining all water out. Larger than it looks in photos and feels nice and solid.Certainly powerful enough - having read other reviews, which said it was underpowered, I'd ask them just how powerful you want it to be? Think it has the suction balance just right so it's able to lift up and clean gravel without sucking it all the way up and clattering into the spinning macerator wheel thing (which is easy to remove and rinse after use).It does create a cloud of fine silt which is expelled back into the water - to mitigate this I just took it easy the first time I tried it and it settled down quickly enough through my filter. TOP TIP - Remember to give your filter media a quick squeeze /wash out afterwards as part of a normal 20% partial water change to get rid of accumulated silt. That's about as fiddly as it gets really.Cleaning out the mesh cartridge is nice and simple too - it unclips off a bit like a dyson cartridge - and then the top and bottom pop off for easy rinsing.I used the extension section so I could give the gravel a bit of a stir - easy to overdo it (and get carried away!) if you've not cleaned your gravel in a while so would suggest moderation and working the surface lightly before digging into the silt further below (question whether you should do this anyway is it's probably beneficial from a bacterial/health of tank point of view?).Batteries (x4 AA) seem fine from a longevity point of view so far, I take them out when it's not in use.Overall, really pleased with this device, easy to use and well worth the price. It really is the product you've been waiting for, just don't go mad the first time you use it!

Expensive, but worth it
Excellent product, very expensive but to be honest you get what you pay for.I've used a couple of different gravel vacuums and have always plumped for cheaper ones as when I do a water change in my tank I use a suction pump and try to clean the gravel that way as well, so never thought a gravel vac would get that much use and didn't want to spend a lot of money on one.But the cheap ones are pretty useless, either lasting a couple of weeks before failing, or just not sucking anything up. This one however is much different - its very big (bigger than it looks), is well built and does a great job of sucking up all the dirt and rubbish hiding under your gravel. The design is quite good though does mean your hands are likely to get wet when using - not really a problem, but I wasn't expecting that when I first used it. It feels like this will last a long time, so is probably worth the money when compared to cheaper ones that last a few weeks (I have only had this for a few weeks so time will tell on this - but I feel it will last). The only issue I have come across, and you get this on every gravel pump, is it will suck up any fish fry or baby shrimp - its down to you to be careful when operating it, but it has happened and I have lost a couple of baby shrimp this way as once they are sucked up, its difficult to get them out the mesh cartridge as all of the sludge and dirt is in there as well.Overall though, very happy with this - there is something therapeutic about sucking up all of the dirt from the bottom of your tank and knowing your fish are living in a much cleaner environment.

Awful product
I've been keeping fish for many years and this is probably the worst fish keeping related product I have bought. I tried it on one of my tanks with gravel and all the fine particles just blew out the side of the filter box and clouded the tank. Ok i thought so doesnt work great for very fine debris. Thats ok as i mainly wanted to use it on my other tanks with sand substrate to hoover the loose dirt sitting on top of the sand. Thought it would be good for hoovering pleco poo up in one tank that houses a big pleco, but no it seems thats generally too heavy for it to pick up easily. Also if you have any plants thats also a no no, as if even a small piece of plant leaf gets sucked in blocks the thing. I thought it would be handy to just give my tank a quick clean up a few times a week in between water changes, but the reality is i won't be using it. Totally useless.

It does a great job. It has just the right amount of ...
It loses a star for being, in my opinion, a bit overpriced for what is basically a battery water pump and a mesh shield. That said, it's a decent piece of kit. I'm not sure if the battery cover has been fixed (as others have mentioned) to ensure it's 100% waterproof as my tank didn't need it to go below the water line.It does a great job. It has just the right amount of suction to agitate the gravel to loosen any bits of debris that are in between the stones without sucking the stones up. I cleaned the whole tank in five minutes and the mesh is extremely easy to clean - not like those clogging, cloth bags. One thing to mention is that some of the smaller particles of crap do go through the mesh and back into the water, so it does leave the tank slightly hazy once you're done but it clears in a couple of hours. This is the best gravel cleaner I've found that doesn't require you to empty half the tank and works consistently. Very simple to use.

Good Vac but not amazing value.
A bit expensive for what it is really, I dont know why but for 50 quid I was expecting more.Sure its is better than the cheaper alternatives but at 5 x times the price im not sure its worth it.The overall design is great but the plastic is a little flimsy, I cant see it lasting forever. It does work quite well but is a little temperamental and doesnt take much for the motor to sieze up and it just stop.I only purchased this as I have tanks on the floor level where a normal siphon would not work, I would recommend a normal siphon in most instances.anyway im glad its in my maintenance weaponary and theres no doubt it will help keep my tank clean.
