I was told that this one is much better than the folic acid

Very good source of folate
I recommend taking folate and not folic acid, and therefore recommend Solgarās metafolin. Do not take other types of supplements labelled āfolic acid.ā This is because the human body finds it difficult to convert folic acid into folate, which means that (1) if you take folic acid for reproductive or cancer protective purposes you will not get as much folate as you think you are getting from the label. (2) Uncoverted folic acid poses several health risks, with research showing that it might increase the risk of some types of cancer eg prostate cancer, and some studies suggest it might increase breast cancer risk (note however that folate per se reduces breast cancer risk). See the article in BMJ Open āCancer risk with folic acid supplements: a systematic review and meta-analysis. (3) Research shows children whose mothers took high dose folic acid supplements (NOT folate supplements) had a significantly increased risk of being diagnosed on the autistic spectrum. Correlation is not causation but it does warrant a serous think by the health community about the dangers of telling women to take high doses of folic acid. Search PubMed for the evidence. It is frustrating that the NHS, GPs and other health providers do not warn people about the need to take folate rather than folic acid. This is why I recommend Solgarās metafolin because it is a form of folate that is bio-available to the body.

Works fine but hard to swallow
Before I started taking these, my folate serum level was recorded as 4.75 ug/L. After taking for some weeks, my next reading came back as 17.12 ug/L. (Reference range is 3.89 - 19.8.) So the tablets definitely work just fine :)My only real criticism with these is that they are large-ish and hard to swallow. I'm taking 5 tablets a day right now; this is the largest tablet I'm taking and the only one I have trouble swallowing. It gets stuck in my throat quite regularly and is kinda bitter tasting when it does that. In contrast I used to be on 5mg folic acid tablets prescribed by my GP and they were under half the size of these and I had no problem swallowing them :/But yeah, that's really the only complaint I have about these.

Worked rapidly
I was diagnosed with folate deficiency this year. After researching on the internet I decided not to take the pills they prescribed and found these as they are supposed to be easier for the body to use without side effects at high doses.The past 5-6 weeks I made an effort to take a multivit, B12 Methylcobalamin 250mg and 2 of these Solgar tabs a day.Just got my scores back and I've gone from 2.3 to 18.2! So happy this is sorted out. I also feel happier in myself as low levels could have caused my moods/depression.

Worth the cost
Been trying to conceive for 16 months, and these have bern awesome! Super easy to take, and since this form is easily absorbed by the body, I know I will be ready when we have one of these little beans stick! 100% recommend.

I looked all over for a good folate supplement when I got pregnant. I took this with an adult multivitamin (instead of a prenatal vitamin) because it was much cheaper. Still taking it now while breastfeeding
