Handa's Surprise

Bought to replace an old copy. Beautiful pictures, lovely story. Got my playgroup children talking about and trying fruit. Love the multi cultural celebration in it too.

I bought this book to use during sessions where I work with children. I love the story and it lends itself to many cross-curriculum subjects.Great value book in good condition, arrived speedily.

The story itself is a classic - one for all kids. I ordered a “used” book to save money. I was amazed by the quality of the book. It is in almost perfect condition so I am really pleased. It was free postage and arrived a couple of days late, but given the quality of the book I am perfectly happy with my purchase.

My two year old daughter's favourite book. My four year old daughter likes it, too, although a bit better for younger children. The pictures are very beautiful- like pieces of art, I think. The story is calm and simple, but young children find it funny that different animals steal the different fruits that a girl balances in a basket on her head on her way to her friend, who lives in a neighbouring village. Once the basket is empty, by chance a goat hits a tangerine tree, so that the fruits fall into her basket without her noticing.I saw that one of the other reviews found that the story shows stereotypes. I worked in different African countries in rural areas and always found it admirable how gracefully people balance things on their heads. In this story, i see that one could critisize that the girl doesn't notice what happens to her basket...

A classic

My daughter brought this book to school for world book day she loves it. It was also my favourite book years ago when I was in school.

Children with speech delay can learn lots of new vocabularies and great for developing the comprehension skills too.

I bought this for my 2.75-yo - I like to have books that show people and places with different cultures than ours, but that are still fun to read. My daughter loved this book and asked for it over and over again. She was very curious about Handa and Akeyo and their villages and I showed her where Kenya is and she really seemed to absorb a lot of it AND loved the premise and the pictures. I love that it has some information for the parents and that the author put so much effort into getting the details to be accurate. Just an overall great book.

dieses buch ist toll. es hat sehr liebevolle und etaillierte zeichnungen, die geschichte ist lustig und auch auf englisch leicht zu verstehen und zu übersetzen. es handelt sich um ein buch mit einem schwarzen mädchen als hauptperson, das ist so super selten - tolles buch! mein 1,5 jähriges kind liebt es

So ce the day we have bought it, my 22 month old asks to read it multiple times, everydayThe book combines two of toddler loves: fruits and animals. As different animals steal different fruits from Handa. My son always gets a big grin at the end when things work out well 😄Plus points for being inclusive.
