The Boulton & Paul Defiant is one of the most underrated aircraft of WW2. Although popular press would have the world believe that the Spitfire won the Battle of Britain single handed, the Hurricane was the real work-horse of that battle, and this strange little aircraft also performed reasonably well. It's built and looks like a fighter, so in the early days confused German pilots attacked from behind - a common area as it is unprotected. Of course, with this one they got a nasty surprise.Unfortunately the weight of the turret slowed this aircraft a fair amount and it better performed against the bombers. Later moved from daylight sorties to night fighter the Defiant performed fairly well. Allowing of course that this is in the days before radar and accurate detection. Night flying was a very dangerous affair.Airfix have done well representing this ugly duckling aircraft and the moulding is fairly clean and nicely detailed. Assembly is relatively easy with a little cleaning up prior to gluing. Interior detailing is minimal and the crew provided are not clearly molded, so a little creativity is needed here. However, as the model is quite small that's not really so much of a surprise. This is another under-represented model and it's nice that Airfix recognised the value of this plane and made a kit for it. Even better, that they did a pretty nice job of the kit as well.There are some small and fiddly bits in this model, so adult supervision is needed if this is bought for a young relative.Worth the money in my opinion, and a good job by Airfix.

I might be bias but airfix do some great models but for another 1/72model details are good .My main issue with airfix is the price you can get cheaper but expect more cleaning with cheaper models be fore you start painting the model. I suppose airfix have better moulds and newer ones to have such clean models hence the prices..

Forgotten how many reviews I have submitted on Airfix but the fact I keep buying them is testimony to Airfix quality. The reason is because I know I will get a good finished product as all the parts fit so perfectly.

This is another good kit; of an interesting, if somewhat unusual aircraft. It was not a success as a daytime fighter, but found a niche for itself in the night fighter role: for that reason, it is worth having and building, and like all Airfix kits, comes with clear instructions, a full set of alternative decals, and a worthy place in any collector's list of 'has beens' and 'may have beens'.

This is a kit of good standard. It was very enjoyable putting it together. Multiple cockpit options are available, including the choice to have it open.Some fragile parts are in the kit, so care should be exercised during assembly. The landing gear was easy to assemble and held firm once glued.This is a very good representation of the Defiant.

nice model of a forgotten fighter aircraft of WW11, well done air fix. Nice clean model parts. It puts together well to make an excellent detailed model. a good buy. Full marks to Cheltenham model Centre for a fast and efficient service. Model well packed and arrived safely.

Airfix have greatly improved this kit, crisp mouldings, sharp transfer s, will look nice with early spitfires, hurricane s bleinham s. Well done airfix.

Many years ago I made the original Airfix Kit of this model, it was a bit of a challenge. In contrast this new offering from Airfix really is excellent, it went together really well just a minor amount of filler and sanding and its come out well. My one criticism is that it was very difficult to get the control panel in the cockpit to sit comfortably in the right place, its a very tight fit round the pilot. But well worth buying if you want this model in your collection.

Je l'avais construit étant ado, je retrouve le même plaisir à monter ce kit aujourd'hui. Bien sûr, c'est un ancien moule, loin des standards actuels. Mais c'est une maquette agréable à monter.

New tooled kit from Airfix is light years ahead of the old Defiant kit from the 60's. (50's?).Nicely detailed with engraved panel lines, two decal options, clear instructions. And a great price. Highly recommended.
