Suck [DVD]

It Did Indeed Suck - But In A Semi-Good Way!
I got this primarily because I love vampire films and have a huge collection of them I'm always happy to add to - for better or worse! - and because I wanted to see Iggy Pop who I like. It also sounded like the plot would lend itself well to a vampire film, stylistically, hasn't been done to death in vampire films already and might even have a good soundtrack too (which it did, mostly). On paper that all sounded good, but in practice it's easy to understand people seeing this as a low budget fairly bad film. Mostly, it is - it looks and feels like budget movie and the effects are mostly terrible, but sometimes so terrible that they're good and despite it's flaws the scripting isn't terrible and the cast are pretty good and it's crazy enough to forgive its shortcomings. It has its funny moments too and the basic premise of the band becoming infected gradually one by one and as a result improving as a band and becoming more and more famous with a vampire hunter hot on the tail actually kept me engaged enough to watch it through to the end quite happily. If you're looking for a really good vampire film, this isn't it. But if you're just looking to add to your collection and enjoy a bit of light hearted crazy in your vampire films from time to time then I'd say grab it.

ENJOYABLE,BUT UNDERSTANDABLY SLATED
When this one started off,i was thinking i'd made a mistake and my companion gave up.It's very silly, you could even say stupid. It looks cheap from the very start, but oddly the cheap looking scenes add to it's charm as it goes on.The story is about a band that aren't that good and aren't doing very well, then the female singer falls for an odd looking vampire type guy and when she comes back, she's very white and acting odd. It soon becomes clear she's now a vampire, slowly the other members find out and they themselves become vampires and more and more famous with better songs and a more intersting image. On the trail is Eddie Van Helsing, determined to get to Jennifer. There's more of a back story to get into,if you get that far,but i'm sure some won't.This may not make sense, but i would say it's both awful and very good at the same time. It's cheap,it's ridiculous, some of the acting leaves a lot to be desired, but once i got into the style of it,i found it very enjoyable. I liked the subtle gags, visual and verbal and may've missed several. It's got some gore and some big names and plenty of laughs,if it matches your humour. However,i can completely understand many people thinking it's pathetic,it kind of it,but entertaingly so.SUCK,for me it didn't,for some...it certainly will.

Fun, inventive, great cameos
I really liked this film. It is a guilty bit of fun, with great actors and musicians in every scene. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and it looks like the actors are having a good time.Is it the greatest vampire flick ever made -- probably not, but it has no such pretension, either. It is a fun, quite novel look at vampires.Very little in the way of exposition on what vampires are (or are not) is given, which was actually quite refreshing. In this story vampires don't need to be taught their natures, so there are no how-to hunting scenes, or anything like that ... it just chugs along with a rock and roll road trip story, and just assumes that the audience can accept that the vampires are vampires, and that they do vampire-like stuff. (Stakes and sunlight are bad, no mention of crosses or religious relics, no glittering like twilight - though they do shine sometimes)I went into it expecting a bit of creative indie film fun, and that's exactly what I got.Things that I especially liked -Moby as an obnoxious hard rocker (the biggest rock star in Buffalo! -- People from the UK may not necessarily get why that is funny, but it is.)Hugo, the hapless French Canadian roadieDmitri Coats as Queeny the head vampire, who was accurately described as being, "like a junkie from hell."Alice Cooper & Iggie Pop, having fun being versions of themselves.

Suspect title for a very good film.
Okay, so let's face it the title of the film makes it sound like porn rather than a decent vampire movie, but I suppose at least it get's the audience's attention. The fact is, Suck [Blu-ray][Region Free ] is a fabulous movie. It is funny and engaging with great dialogue and a plot that has not been done a hundred times before. The cast is superb and the whole film is insane enough to be utterly brilliant. When it said "rock band" in the summary and listed Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop, I thought they would be the in the band, but they're actually highly engaging side characters and the actors playing the band are superb. Then of course there is the music which is fabulous and of course the wonderful Malcolm McDowell as the obsessed vampire hunter. It's well produced, hilariously funny and well worth every vampire fan's attention. This is a definite to add to your collection.

Worth watching but low budget
Good story, hot female vampire, funny bits, so worth a watch. But some of the low budget effects are err um obviously low budget - but that didnt really distract from the film. So why only 3 stars - well hot vampire aside it didnt really grab me but then again this isnt really my type of film. I bought it as it was cheap and while I am glad I did I would not have wanted to pay mega bucks for it.
