Q: why does a recording come up as separate

I don't really understand the question. If recording from an Olympus recorder, each time the stop button is pressed, then that recording is deemed to be finished, and a new one begins when Record is pressed. If you only want to pause the recording, then simply press Record again and it will pause until you decide to continue and re-press 'Record'. When downloaded each separate file appears as a new recording in the transcription folder. If this isn't what you mean, please explain your problem in more detail.

Sorry, I did not buy the voice recorder, but can tell you that the software will play audio formats DSS, DSS Pro, WMA, MP3 and WAV/AIFF. If you can identify whether one of these formats is used to record on the voice recorder then I think you should not have a problem. Have you looked on the Olympus website?

Q: Can this be used with apple macs?

PSs to my previous answer. I have a MacBook Air and no way of reading CD/DVDs and so had to get an Apple shop to download the software for me as I'm pretty clueless when it comes to such things. But he sure not to throw away the contents of the box as it contains a password which has to be keyed in if, for whatever reason, you change machine.

The files compatible with this product are DSSPro, DSS, WAV, WMA, and MP3 audio files. The product information doesn't say anything about m4a files. I guess you can google and see if you can resave your m4a files in to another format.
