Be Careful What You Do With Him!
"The Baby Jesus Butt-Plug." You might think the title says it all, but only because you haven't read this fascinating novella by Carlton Mellick, the Avant-Punk Master. This book has it all: social satire, zombies, butt plugs not only in the form of Baby Jesus, but John Lennon and other famous people as well. Children run the world. People can make copies of themselves and be several places at once, which would have made Philip K. Dick proud.A couple purchases the "title character" from a woman who warns them not to use him as such. They, needless to say, ignore her advise. Chaos ensues. Confusion prevails. You have to read it to believe it. This is the first Mellick book I picked up, but I've read them all since then. It is a good place to start, and it isn't nearly as offensive as the title suggests. Or maybe it is. You decide.

Unique idea, well executed
This story by Carlton Mellick is a quick read, but that isn't a bad thing. It's in the format of a book for young readers, with very large print and lots of pictures. The story is incredibly strange, but simple enough so that you don't get confused. Some may find it offensive (if you couldn't tell from the title) but Mellick never writes simply to offend or shock. He always writes with a sense of humor, and a complete lack of judgement. His stories just always lean towards the bizarre, and the bizarre often involves many tabboo breaking ideas. This being said, however, this story definitely deserves attention. If you can't make yourself spend the money on such a short book, I recommend you read some of the author's other works, such as "Satan Burger" or "Fishy-Fleshed", and then come back to this one. You will definitely find it worthwhile then.

As good as the title is strange
This relatively short and oh so sweet story by Carlton Mellick is much more than just shock-rock in literary form, as many people may be led to believe from the title. It is set up almost as a children's story, with large print and lots of interesting illustrations. It's a story about the future of society and the structure and interaction of family, full of heaping helpings of taboo smashing sex, violence, and humor. Between litters of John Lennon clones, zombies, and childish CEO's that happen to be hundreds of years old, there's something for everyone. It's an easy read, but in the very best way. The fairly simple illustrations complement the story nicely, and you'll find that after you've finished the story the first time you'll have an urge to begin it again almost immediately. So pick this up, it's more than worth the price, and I promise you will be very pleased.
