The best smelly candle
Apart from scent, I like the way this candle burns evenly right to the end. This means there’s hardly any wax left, the wick doesn’t get buried in wax, which means if you clean the glass, you have a lovely vase or dish to reuse.

Lovely coffee scents
This is perhaps my favourite woodwick scent. Lovely sweet coffee caramel scents and an amazing throw. One star removed due to some minor damage to the glass which looked to be a manufacturer defect, but doesn't detract from the actual usability of the candle

I'd be super happy to get as a gift
When I first lit this it terrified me! I'd nip to the other room and just hear crackling like something was on fire interspersed with the occasional wheezy squeal or pop and come racing back through. Now I'm used to it and I find it rather comforting when it's on the coffee table and I'm sat on the sofa with a book and a midweek cocktail. When lit the smell isn't overpowering but it's a warm vanilla scent that fills the room, particularly nice on a dark evening with low lamps lit for atmosphere. It does smell stronger if you nip out of the room and back in. When it's not lit I can only smell it if I walk close by it on the shelf it lives on when it's not on duty.It has melted down evenly but I have taken care of the wick, making sure it is even along its length before lighting and I let the top layer melt before blowing out although that is more by length of use than intentional action.I'd certainly buy another, it creates atmosphere of an evening and looks good too whether lit or not. If I got this as a gift I'd be very chuffed.

Woodwick Ellipse - Vanilla Bean
The scent isn't that strong which I was disappointed with as the other scent in the Woodwick range is splendid. It does give a nice faint smell which doesn't linger in the room for too long after blowing out the candle. I probably won't come back to this scent as there are much stronger scents to go for. The crackling sound it makes while it's burning will never get old.

A bit loud!
I bought a 'crackling candle' from B&M a few weeks ago. Its crackle was a fairly subtle, background kind of noise - quite nice and relaxing. A bit like the occasional crackle from a coal or wooden fire would be considered relaxing. This candle, on the other hand, can be quite loud-ish. The best way I could describe the sound would be to say it sounds a bit like a deep fat fryer when the oil is ready and there's still a few bits of food left in from the time before, but a bit more muffled in tone than that. It can go quiet at times but once it ramps up, it's fairly noisy. It isn't an occasional crackle; it's full-on and continuous!I have followed the instructions carefully, i.e., burnt it for a few hours at a time and also kept the wick short. To be fair, this candle would be better suited to a large room where it might be a distance away from earshot, or in a room where there is normally a fair amount of noise anyway. But if it's only going to be a few feet away from you, or if it's in a normally very quiet room, it can be a bit overpowering. It's a personal preference thing - some people will like the decibel level; some won't. Unfortunately, it's not as subtle as I would have liked it to be.Also, worth mentioning is that 'crackling candles' can kick out a bit more smoke than regular candles so avoid putting it near a white or a lightly-coloured wall.As far as scent is concerned (Vanilla Bean in my case), it is very muted and not overpowering. There's more of a 'generic candle smell' than there is of vanilla bean, probably because they kick a bit more smoke out.A dinner party candle? Yes. A relaxing candle? No.
