Essential Flamenco Guitar: Volume 1: An In-Depth Course for Absolute Beginners to More Advanced Players

I had self-learned prior to following this book so wasn't a total beginner. The DVD video looks a little dated now but the content in the video and the book is fantastic. It's very easy to follow along, pausing where needed to practice. The segments are a favourable duration and not too long being focussed on one of two things a time. The structure of the video content is sometimes a little odd and inconsistent. The book is in tabs as well as sheet so anyone can pick this up and get going quickly. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to learn Flamenco coming from any level of skill with a guitar.

the notation is not easy to follow, but the videos are excellent, and the book is more for back up and reference. Juan takes you from a simple rhumba rhythm through to proper flamenco, giving tricks and tips along the way. If it was the book without the dvds, It would be nowhere near as easy and fun. It's not the cheapest book on how to learn flamenco guitar, but it's definitely the best value for money. Highly recommended.

Difficult to access the vids but once I complained we worked it out ... eventually.

To very honest with you I am a intermediate player I have had a go at it but at the moment it’s a bit different to me,but I will get there in the end it’s there to be learnt and it’s well laced out .

Clear instructions with a relaxed teaching style. You feel like Juan really enjoys this side of his work and is happy to share his knowledge. The first video starts with simple chords and will have you playing a simple rumba straight away!

Fantastic clear and inspiring instruction. Progressive and beautiful exercises. Real flamenco. Just wonderful!

An excellent guide for the beginner to flamenco guitar. Within minutes you are playing and learning basic flamenco palos and chords. I have other guides by Juan Martin but this is the best starter. It will then lead nicely into his more advanced courses.

Very disappointed with this product. I’m a great admirer of Juan Martin and thought to try flamenco guitar book one with the very basics. However, it is a challenging style of guitar playing to get one’s head around and it advertises an accompanying video to support the learning process throughout the whole book. However, I found when I Played the video link it lasted for two minutes and then there were adverts and then it shut off. So very disappointed.

Bom livro, muito didático e intuitivo. Recomendo.

Absolument nécessaire à la pratique de la musique flamenco.....il y a plus de 3 gigas de vidéos à télécharger sur le site de l'éditeur qui sont aussi importantes à la pratique certaines leçons on plusieures vidéos dédiées..... ne parlant pas espagnol ce livre en anglais est parfait !!!!!

Easy to understand, the DVD is great especially for beginners. Gets you playing right away!

Ich besitze nun 4 Lehrwerke von Juan Martin!Mit diesem sollte man beginnen.Sowohl didaktisch (auch wenn man vielleicht schon bisserl weiter ist) als auch vom Spaßfaktor her! (Den er selbst betont, wie z.B. in der Passage wo er zuerst ein bisserl singt (oder versucht zu singen), und dann sagt, " this is why I had to become a guitarplayer"... 😉Schon alleine der Tipp, wie man seine Fingernägel verstärkt ("China-Silk") ist den Kauf des Buches wert.🤑Als Flamenco-Liebhaber ein Muss!💃Als Gitarrist von anderen Stilrichtungen, auch ein Muss, weil die ausgeklügelte Technik weiterhilft, und man nochmals zusätzliche andere Übungsinhalte bekommt...ah ja,...üben muss man schon noch, aber da wären wir dann wieder beim Spaßfaktor... 🤩Klare Kaufempfehlung!👍

Excellent. Better than a private lesson. Best way is just to put the guitar down and watch the video. First disc is 2 hours and covers technique. 2nd disc covers music. Get comfortable, watch the video over and over again. Nothing about it is tedious, no detailed explanations on technique, just the basics. Then when it's time to get to work go to the book and pretend you have an assignment for next week and work on a section. I started with a lot of music and guitar knowledge but a complete beginner on Flamenco. Takes a while to just count. Once you get the counting down the rest seems to start to fall into place.Juan is a fabulous teacher and obviously loves the music and shares that love above the technique.Although reading standard notation isn't necessary, it only takes about 20 minutes to learn and is helpful in explaining the theory behind the music but tabs are included or you could just do it by ear. .
