I had been wanting to get a CD by Gerry Rafferty that included the track 'Night Owl'. As 'Night Owl' is one of my all time favourite songs I decided to purchase Gerry Rafferty - 'Essential' which had a very high number of five star reviews. Obviously I thought I knew what I was going to get but my oh my how wrong could I be! This CD has to be one of the best I have ever heard ... not only have I got a good recording of 'Night Owl' but it is the extended Version as well! Baker Street is also covered by an extended version. The second track entitled 'Right Down the Line is song I have never heard before but apparently it did well in the USA but never released in the UK ... but the sixth track, 'The Royal Mile' is one I had forgotten (how I don't know) and it contributes towards an absolutely fabulous CD ... For five quid it does not come any better than this and that I promise!

The amazing Gerry Rafferty, left us far too soon. His songs belong to my generation. This album gives us just some of his very best. There is more, much more. I have pre ordered the new album due in September. I for one cannot wait. One of the best singer songwriters EVER

Ah! The sweet dulcit tones and toe tapping songs of Gerry Rafferty. This is a great collection, my particular favourites are all included. Who can forget the sax solo on Baker Street? Get this collection, turn on, tune in and drop off to sleep.

There are a few tracks on this I didn’t have but had heard before.but to have these all on one cd is great.What a superb artist and highly underrated.The songs well crafted and enjoyable but the saxophone is superb.

I had all the original vinyls back in the 70s....long since gone. So finally got round to replacing them with this brilliant compilation. Gerry Rafferty was a great singer songwriter, sadly gone before his time. Some really great songs here, well worth buying, his voice was soulful and the music is timeless - always a sing of great writing. Get this, you wont regret it!

Good cd some really nice songs on. Some I hadn't heard before but they were very pleasant to listen to arrived before time stated wrapped well would recommend

Superb album,always bothered me that I I'd every get around to getting any of Gerry s music when younger. Most of his known hits on this ..Magic.

I bought this album soon after hearing 'Night Owl' on BBC Radio 2 last week. Prior to this, the only Gerry Rafferty songs I knew were 'Baker Street' and 'Right Down the Line'. This compilation includes both of those tracks, and a few other songs which have justifiably been called Rafferty classics. For me the jewel in the crown of this collection so far is 'The Ark'. Thanks for providing this at such a reasonable price, Amazon.
