Moomin Deluxe: Volume One
G**T
Marvelous Moomins in Comic Strip Capers.
This collected volume really is delightful. It comprises the complete Moomin comic strips as drawn by their creator Tove Jansson, and best of all they have all their errors corrected. This I have to admit was something I was worried about as I know the individually published editions had a number of pages which contained errors, a problem which the publishers corrected by offering replacement pages to be sent to buyers. Thankfully Moomin is in all his perfected glory in these humorous tales of Moomin Mama and Papa, Moomin, The Snork Maiden, Snufkin and Sniff and the rest of the inhabitants of Moominvalley and beyond. The book is predominantly black and white (which is because the original strips were produced for newspapers) and thankfully nobody thought it would be a good idea to colourise them. This would have been a major disaster. All five original collections are included and they emanate a delightful mix of humour and gentle satire, played out beautifully in the delightful style of Jansson. Even in these fairly simple illustrations, the clean lines of her penmanship are a joy. No mark is made that shouldn't be there and she captures light and texture so well in what can be a difficult medium to work with. The same can also be said of her writing too, the simple and yet pointed tales are also very poignant. Tove Jansson dearly loved the Moomins, and this comes across in her early scripts. But is interesting to know that she finally became enslaved to them. Although she was an accomplished illustrator and novelist, the public just wanted more Moomin tales until she finally wrote the last of her stories set in their Valley, a story in which they never made an appearance, and as she tired of her creation her brother Lars took up the comic strip, and his work can be see in other volumes. The Deluxe Edition itself is pretty hefty hardback (although I do think the paperstock could have been a bit thicker, especially as it is a deluxe edition) and it is bound in a primary red paper. On the front Moomin is embossed in a simple design and the look of the volume is quite elegant and understated. Inside the endpapers are the same bright images as the slipcase and a poster of the slipcase art is also included. There is a brief introduction where there are more enlarged colour works of Moomin and then the comic strips begin. In the back are a number of glossy pages with original character sketches on them. I have to confess that the bright slipcover and introduction do not feel like genuine Tove drawings but more like a pop artist interpreted them. The book would have been perfect if it had used some of her beautiful Moomin paintings, but I can see why they went for the more graphical images rather than watercolour ones. The book is after all about her comic strips, not her paintings. But I do believe that adding some of her other concept art would have really made it the deluxe volume it calls itself. One thing I was very grateful for was the strong well constructed slipcase. Wrapped in printed designs it is beautiful and looks great on a shelf. The stock photo shown by Amazon is not entirely accurate, the case side is narrower than shown and cropped more so that Moomin seems bigger. The spine is also not completely black but has a flower on the bottom of it, the lettering also does not read down the spine, but like a normal book. All in all I was delighted to receive this book and even at it's full price it is cheaper than the individual volumes and you don't have to worry about sending off of sticky pages to amend your books. If you are a Moomins fan then it really is a must, lose yourself in the delightful tales of Moominvalley, laugh good-naturedly at their exploits, but beware of the trolls! Many thanks for reading!

Beautiful book on the Tove Jansson comics by publisher Drawn and Quarterly
I love everything about this except that it is made in China. Why couldn't it be more locally produced either in Quebec Canada where the publisher Drawn and Quarterly are based. Why so far away?Despite this I still love the collection of comic strips in this deluxe edition. I used to borrow a copy from the library for years, finally it's great to have my own copy.

Well presented
Great to have all in one place. It’s large format so while presented well size wise it’s a bit chunky to read in bed. But they wouldn’t have fit in one volume otherwise. Shame it wasn’t wrapped in plastic as there was dirt on the front which I couldn’t remove sadly. But I guess real Moomins wouldn’t stay white in the wild…?

Moomins ready to hand
We are Moomin fans – our interest being stoked following reading of the Summer Book several years ago. We found the hardback versions of the strip cartoons in our local library, but had to give these back when our time ran out, and they would be shuffled off to another part of the county another Moomin fan to read. With this book, one can sit down and dip into any of the cartoons whenever you have just some free time: while it's not exactly the same as waiting for the next strip to arrive in your paper, it is still a lovely reminder of the inhabitants of Moomin Valley.

Moomintastically great, better than a gold coin!!!!
Christmas present for daughter so have not opened and fully looked at it yet but going by the size, weight and quality I'm sure it is going to be very good indeed. So Its "not scientific" to realise this is worth getting if your a fan of the anime series like my daughter who has every episode and still watches now even though she is almost 17.Have opened now and can confirm that the quality and the content are both excellent. It will be something very nice to look at again and again with lots of additional info on the moomins. Can highly recommend this to any fans as you will not regret the purchase. The additional poster has taken pride of place on bedroom wall and the hardcase looks very good on bookshelf as a talking point, for anyone who has not had the joy of reading the tranquillity and mischievous life of the moomins this is one of the best ways to start.

Moomin deluxe anniversary edition
This book is absolutely beautiful. It is so well produced. A very heavy and large book, and contains all the comic strip stories of Tove Jansson's Moomins. Fans of the Moomins will greatly appreciate the beautiful quality of this book. It will appeal to people of all ages. One of the best books I have ever purchased. Worth every penny. I don't think anyone could be disappointed in this book. The quality of the paper and binding and slip case is of a very high quality

Beautiful book
I bought this as a gift, already having my own copy. The illustrations and storylines are delightful - the same familiar characters from the Moomin books but seen through a different lens. However, I had to return the first copy as it was shipped loose in a large box with no extra packing and arrived damaged. One edge of the slipcase had totally torn away. This might be poor design, I can see that over time my own has become slightly frayed in the same place, but it's not the first large book I've had to return for a replacement. Well worth it for anyone who loves the Moomin family and their friends. The drawings are so full of detail.

'Deluxe' truly pertinent here (see photos)
Probably the best quality hardcover book boxset I've ever laid hands on (...there's a lot of competition).Absolutely beautiful print detail, great quality cover and box (sturdy, smooth and colourful), perfect size for the illustrations' sake.Includes an original poster inside, and 28 pages at the end dedicated to Tove Jansson's character studies for the Moomin comic strip, annotated and in facsimile print (see pictures). A yellow ribbon keeps track of one's page.Wonderfully put together, and will last over a lifetime. Tove would be proud. I've half a mind to buy several to give them as presents in years to come.

Beautiful Addition To My Book Collection
I recently added this beautiful edition of the Moomin comics to my book collection, and I absolutely adore it! As a fan of Moomin and all the beloved characters, this deluxe edition is a true gem. The witty comics bring so much joy, and they make for an especially satisfying read on rainy days. One thing to note is that the book is quite big and heavy, which makes it less practical to carry around. However, the quality and charm of this edition more than make up for its size. The deluxe format really showcases the artwork beautifully, and I plan on purchasing the other deluxe edition as well.

Świetne wydanie
Świetny omnibus zawierający wszystkie komiksy stworzone przez Tove. Dobra alternatywa dla pojedynczych wydań. Bardzo ładnie wydana cegła w twardym etui i z materiałami dodatkowymi
