Fantastic toy for stimulating young minds
My 6 year old son got the tool box kit of this last year and absolutely loved it, as did I. So to expand the set and increase the scope of our constructions, i bought this pack as well. To summarise, its a similar concept to Lego and other such toys, but with more of a clockwork focus, so using cogs, chains, pulleys etc. to create a moving structure. For any young budding engineers, this is an excellent toy. You get a little booklet which gives you some ideas to recreate and allows littlens to get used to whats possible, then let the imaginations flow and see what they come up with on their own. Great fun for both kids and adults alike. The pieces are made from a durable good quality plastic, and all fit together easily. Its a little more complex than things like Lego, in that you have different types of connectors and can attach sections at different angles etc. but this really helps enhance the capabilities. With a little guidance, my boy got the hang of it very quickly and only really needs help occasionally separating the odd stubborn piece when taking items apart. Hours of fun and much better than most of the mind numbing toys available nowadays. Watch out though, as its easy to get involved and before you know it, the adults have taken over and are doing more playing than the kids!

Great piece of kit
Not the most well known of toy brands in the UK, we first came across this toy at the science centre. We did know, therefore, what to expect when we ordered it. The first thing on opening the box was a twinge of disappointment that the yellow pieces pictured were an ivory colour in our set, which detracts a tiny bit from the colourful look. Of course, this does not affect the functionality of the set. There is a booklet contained with a few systems to build but the fun of this is the relative ease with which a child (and it's helper :D) can construct contraptions that move in fairly complex ways. Even just in free play, this toy is promoting fine motor skills, analytical thinking and is also incredibly satisfying for children who are sensory seeking on account of the different motions you can create. And, although it's clearly marketed as a toy, it's pretty cool for children to feel like they are inventing and engineering systems that are similar to real life. My daughter, 8, loves this and enjoys experimenting with it independently as well as with me.

Sturdy and excellent fun!
My daughter (10) loves this. It was purchased to help her produce an invention for a school project, but it would appeal to younger children. It fits together really well and there seem to be endless possibilities of what you can create with it. The pieces are strong so it should be long lasting.I would have given it 5 stars but for a couple of niggly little things. 1. It would have been nice to have a leaflet with it giving some ideas and suggestions of what to build and how to fit things together, the only picture to refer to is the one on the box. 2. Some of the pieces, mainly the support pieces, are really tricky to take apart. We've had good fun with it!

Have Grandad, the retired mechanic, on standby
My son Ben (6) says: it's fun and exciting. It's hard because if there's a bigger gear in front of a smaller gear on the plan it's hard to count how many tines the gear should have and if there is eight you can get confused if there is ten.'You get the picture. Your budding Brunel has to like reading plans - and you had better have Grandad, the retired mechanic, on standby if he gets stuck. Ben fixed the star rating. It's great, but definitely for a left-brained plan-fixated Richard-Hammond-loving six year old control freak with too many engineers in the family.

Gets the grey-matter working
I bought this for a 6-year old boy who loves it. It is a very good value set of 270 pieces that fit together in endless different ways. Just the sort of thing that most boys would love to play with for hours and ideal for any budding engineer. It comes in nice bright colours, seems durable and comes with plenty of construction ideas. It is good for experimentation with the pieces that often bring unexpected and surprising results. A good way to learn basic mechanical principles without realising. I think this is quite a novel toy and educational in a fun and subtle way.

Good fun for creative kids
I got this for my 5 year old nephew for Christmas and he seemed to really enjoy it. He spent most of Christmas day playing with it, despite the many other toys he got from Santa! The pieces fit together nicely and there are lots of ways of fitting everything together. His Dad also seemed to enjoy helping out too!We did think we were missing certain pieces as we couldn't find 2 cogs of a certain colour, but we then realised that they were just a different colour from shown on the box/pictures.

A nice set, though one cannot make many playable models with it
This is a high quality, chunky, bright-coloured construction set, which allows for nice demonstration of some basic mechanics... However, beyond the sheer joy of making things move in a logical and well-controlled way, my daughter finds it a bit disappointing, as she cannot use the end products for fun play... Well, apart from the roundabout and the school bus, she made by adding bits and pieces from another Quarcetti sets we have home. :)In this sense, she prefers her Wacky Wigglers set (Also a gears based set, which allows one to make moving creatures). Also, at the time we bought the Quercetti set, the image on Amazon differed from the actual set we received.

Stimulating, challenging and fun
We love Gear Tech, interactive, challenging and requires resilience for both my son and his mama. Once we understood a little better the placement of connecting pieces we thoroughly enjoyed 'playing' together to realise such great outcomes. My son has only just turned six and this has definite longevity attached to it, with the bonus of designing systems himself. At present we follow the pictures.
