An awesome ship for collectors
IntroductionI first came across this model more or less by accident. As a matter of fact I didn't even know that much about the company by that time.I had built one other Kazi set before this one and that was my whole experience with them.Nevertheless I decided to give this set a try since it just looked too interesting to resist. The size of this pirate ship is impressive. It even surpasses Lego's „Imperial Flagship“.And all that for such a good price?Sounds pretty good, doesn't it?So, I bought it, I built it and now I can give you my opinion about the set.Is it worth it?In one word: Yes.Would I recommend it for everyone?I wouldn't go that far.But let me explain in detail.Packaging: 5 StarsThere is absolutely nothing bad I could say about the packaging. The set comes in a big, and I mean a really big, sturdy box with many pictures and a handle for easy transportation.Within this big box there are two smaller boxes which contain the not-numbered bags with the parts of the model.Everything is kept perfectly safe. The packaging reminds me a bit of earlier Lego packagings as they were done back in the 80s and early 90s.So, no problem with that.Instructions: 4 StarsThe instructions for this model are quite well done. The individual steps follow a logical order and are presented with colored pictures which are pretty easy to understand. The individual parts used for each step are not seperately shown as it is common nowadays, but I actually consider this a plus because it makes even more fun to search for the parts. All in all the instructions are quite similar to older Lego instructions. So, why do I only give four stars for the instructions?Well, it has to do with the model itself. It is mainly built with black pieces and also quite a few pieces in different shades of grey. The problem is that it is very hard to distinguish these colors in the instructions. As a matter of fact I first built the ship's rudder from black pieces, which turned out to be incorrect.Of course that is not really a problem with the instructions but rather a problem with the colors used for the model.Nevertheless it is a point I thought I should mention.Quality of the Bricks: 3 StarsAs I mentioned before this is the second Kazi set I bought. With that being said the quality of the bricks was a bit surprising. With the first set the quality was alright. Not as good as Enlighten, not as good as Lego, but alright. However with the Black Pearl I got kind of a mixed bag concerning the quality of the bricks. Some of the pieces had quite sharp grates or felt a bit „tight“ when connected to other pieces. Now, none of them was damaged in any way and they all fit together.I didn't have to replace even a single brick. However I am an adult and could work with what I had, but I am not entirely sure if a child could do it as well without help. The bricks feel right, the quality of the plastic is good, but I think a little fine tuning here and there might have served the bricks well. And interestingly I didn't have such issues with my other Kazi set, which was released at the same time as this one.So, all in all I would say the quality of the bricks for this set is ok. Not perfect but ok.The Minifigs: 2 StarsTalking about Kazi minifigs is a bit painful, to be perfectly honest. And with “painful“ I really do mean “painful“.They look ok, though I can't say that they look particularly good.As a matter of fact the minifigs in this set are not that interesting but the ship has a crew, so it's better than having no minifigs. But the real problem I have with these figures is that it is a pain to build them. You don't just have to connect the legs, the body and the head, but also the arms and the hands. And especially the hands gave me a hard time.As I said before I am an adult, nevertheless it took so much strength to connect the hands with the arms. In addition to that this particular step is really fiddly. My fingers hurt so much after I was done with the minifigs. So, if an adult has problems with building the minifigs, how is a child supposed to do it?In the end I can say, the minifigs are ok as a stand-in, but if you have the chance exchange them for something better. The Ship: 5 StarsTalking about the ship itself isn't easy cause it inevitably requires to also talk about for whom the set is intended. The ship is gigantic, it's heavy, it is so very detailed, it is beautiful...... I could continue like this. But I also have to mention that it is pretty complicated to build.Especially the masts tend to fall over again and again.Only at the very end they are secured by connecting the rope ladders to the sides. But that still doesn't make this construction perfect.Interestingly this problem would be very easy to solve by using technic axles as a stabilizing element within the masts.I really wonder why that wasn't done. But apart from that I can honestly say that building this model was just a lot of fun.It was challenging but the result speaks for itself. There is so much to discover. A crane, a little boat, which actually has a place on the ship, several decks, a captain's cabin, and, and, and....As I said before this ship is impressive and stunningly beautiful. I love it.If there is one thing I don't really like about it, it would be the sails. Those a printed with dozens of skulls. I think all in all there are 96.... That's not the most subtle way to say that this is a pirate ship. But it also doesn't hurt.I'm not sure if a child would have a problem with those sails.Despite the fact that building the masts was a bit annoying I still want to give this ship 5 stars. It is simply too good to rate it otherwise. But is it really meant for children?I am not so sure about that.Building this set is complicated and even though doubtlessly any child would love to play with this big boat building it probably requires the assistance of an adult in most cases. So, yes, I would say that this particular model is primarily meant for collectors rather than as a toy.By the way, the Kazi Black Pearl is not a copy of Lego's Imperial Flaggship. Even though both ships look vaguely similar they are build in a completely different way. The only thing they have in common is the gigantic size. And I have to say that, construction-wise I personally prefer the Black Pearl.Final Verdict: 4 StarsI have talked a lot about the good things concerning this ship and also about its problems. So, why do I give this set 4 stars, even though it has a few problems? My reason is easy.I am looking at this set from the perspective of an adult collector, who simply happens to like pirate themed brick toys. And as such I can definitely say that the Kazi Black Pearl is very satisfying. But as a toy for children...?I don't know about that. There could be difficulties.Nevertheless I definitely recommend this set to each and every collector.I definitely don't regret having it in my collection.

Worst Ever - Do not waste your money!!!!!
I bought this for my 10 year old son for Christmas and we 'built' it this weekend. This is the worst 'lego ever, I wasn't expecting it to as great quality as official lego but for the price I expected better then blocks that don't even fit together properly. The instructions are poor, bits missing, nothing sturdy about it and mentioned, the blocks are really difficult to put together, so much so then when you another bits to the side, the bottom of the ship comes apart. My family love lego and have lots of the higher age ones, as it's not a case of us being amateurs - this is extremely poor quality and an absolute waste of money, especially as My son now doesn't have a completed ship, due to itbreaking again when trying to fit the masts on.Save your self the money as it's really not worth the hassle, heartache or disappoitment. If I could give it minus 5 stars I would.
