Runs a little warm, and is a little pricey, but it works well
I used this unit with my trusty Surface Pro 7, and it worked well apart from getting a bit warm in use. It is a little larger than the original, but well made.As well as getting a little warm, it is also more expensive than some other units, hence the four star rating. It is a good unit, but there are better alternatives available for less money.

Works Perfectly As An On The Go or Static Surface Pro Fast Charging Solution
The E EGOWAY Microsoft Surface Book Charger arrived in a small unbranded plain box with just a distributor and identification label on the outside. Inside the box was the charger unit with the Surface Pro connector cable on one end with a USB A charging port and the figure 8 mains connector socket on the other A mains cable with the figure 8 plug on one end and a standard 3 Pin mains plug on the other is also supplied. The charging unit is the same width and depth as the Microsoft unit but a couple of centimetres shorter, whilst the Microsoft charger does not have a USB A charging port on boardI ordered this as I had to keep swapping out the charger when not working from home and having to visit employers offices, and since it is mounted under a desk at home it is highly inconvenient. Having a second charger gives me the freedom to have one in my bag at all times, ready to take out for work when needed. Functionally it works just as well as the Microsoft original, provides a stable power source and charging capability with the bonus of the USB A socket for accessories / phone charging etc. It provides a very fast charge, makes no noise (as in buzzing) is just warm not hot to the touch even when in extended use, and is small. If you need a spare or replacement charger for the supported Surface platforms – or like me want it for the convenience of travel and plug and leaving your original in situ for plug and play when at home, you are looking at an charger that can fulfil that role perfectly.

Does the job
I got this charger to supplement where I can touchdown and charge my Surface Book. I have been finding that the lower wattage chargers I have in place are not up to the job apart from slow-charging overnight. This charger does the job, it charges the laptop, and provides the extra 5v/USB output connection most chargers have. Using the USB socket to charge a phone supported a good-speed charge.Unlike another non-Microsoft charger, I have not had an issue with the laptop not feeling grounded. (i.e. this charger is good)In comparison with a genuine Microsoft 100W charger this charger is very slightly higher, and longer (only mm). Unless you have very specific size constraints this isn't noticeable unless you have the two side-by-side. The AC cable is longer than the standard MS one. The laptop side of the cable was slightly shorter than the MS one, by about a cm.The charger did get warm after a long period of use, but the MS one I use does too, the amount of heat didn't really give me any cause for concern. The charger has a Velcro strap on the business end of the cable which can be used if desired for keeping the cable tidy whilst traveling/put away etc. This is an added feature that the MS charger doesn't have :)The plug end of the charger has the same magnetic setup as the genuine MS charger, they feel consistent with the pull. The criticism I would have of this charger is on the port that plugs into the laptop. They appear to have used slightly thinner plastic on the port, and there is a very little light seepage around the 'plug' of the cylinder (if you have dismantled one of these ports before you'll get the bit I mean). Normal usage at 2ft distance I can't see it. The top of the plug however hasn't been quite as well power-coated/painted as the Microsoft version, and there is a bit of bare metal showing. There was also a bit of solder showing on the pad of the connector. It is minor but does make one wonder if there have been other items that were skimped.Personally I prefer function over form, and for me this is technically performing everything that I need it to do, so it is a 5 star product.

Looking good, so far
The important thing is that this is working, so far. It charges my Surface Laptop quickly. It’s quite heavy, at just over 300g, plus 110g for the mains cable, but that’s probably expected for a 102W charger. The USB outlet could be useful but is only rated 1.5A, so is a bit slow with phones and doesn't work with tablets (or at least not my iPad). It carries a CE mark but no RoHS or UKCA. Not that such marks always mean a lot, with unbranded Chinese products, but this one does seem better made than many. Thermal and short circuit protection are claimed for it too. Still, I’ll leave this one under my desk at home where it won’t be disturbed, to be on the safe side, and take the original when travelling. The price is on the high side, at £45.99, but that’s down to what appears to be superior build as well as the 102W rating. It’s probably worth the money.

Good Quality Charger
I have a Surface Laptop 3 for my business and use a docking station at home, leave the original Microsoft charger at the office, so while it may seem indulgent an extra charger for when I'm out and about, it is useful to have an extra one. This charger feels nice and substantial and seems good quality, with a nice finish and good detailing. The charger connects positively to the laptop and it charges straight away and at a good rate, much like the original does. Having a USB port is another nice touch and useful for charging other devices, especially as the laptop only has one on offer!Hopefully it will last and survive being kept in the laptop bag, it isn't the cheapest, but feels good quality and works well.
