John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course: First Christmas Tunes

My son is really enjoying working through these pieces. He does not have piano lessons and has just been taught the basics in school, so these are perfect as they are anchored around middle C for both hands and the fingering is clearly numbered. A great festive purchase.

Great quality product and good value for money

Great and easy to play for pre grade 1-grade 2 I’d say.. however lost a star due to:For a first Christmas book I was expecting illustrations throughout the book. Unlike other books from J.Thomson series there are no prompts or guidance to help learners with notes either.

Great for my son who loves Christmas and hasn't done any grades yet

As a piano teacher it's a real struggle to find fun repertoire that beginners can play. This book is filled with both famous and lesser-known Christmas songs, starting with the classic beginner fiver-finger 'both thumbs on C' position. The songs gradually progress into hands-together playing, and go up to around grade 1 standard. For me this covers all bases (and makes great sight-reading for more advanced students, especially when you're in that 'end of term' Christmas mood!). A fantastic book, and I wish there was another with more general pop or rock songs, or duets!

Can't rate this highly enough - my 7 year old has had all of these books at the suggestion of his piano teacher and he was up and running in no time. Very simple start to this range of books which gets the child immediately into playing tunes and all of them have been brilliant. Good fun with cartoons throughout and the fact that my son was playing with 2 hands from the first few tunes in book 1 I would recommend them to any beginner.We were given a lovely Christmas show with this book. Lovely.

I am a piano teacher and each year I order some of these for students. It is ideal for those who have been learning for 6 months or longer. Some of the pieces are easier than others (the first ones have hands playing separately, and it progresses to hands playing together, hands in different positions and using sharps and flats) so it will provide entertainment and a challenge for two-three years. Students always find it motivational to play something familiar, and my pupils have always enjoyed using this book.

My 7yo son has taken to practising every morning snd evening since he got this book.Would recommend.
