The best book for students reading IR
I brought this book in my first year in reading International Relations and it's got to be best book by far. It goes through a number of theories ((Neo-)Realism, (Neo-)Liberalism, The English School, Marxism, Democratic Peace Theory and many more). For a first year student, if you're studying any course to do with IR, do not hesitate to get this book. I go to a top 20 university and this book is the only one recommended to buy. I also recommend The Globalization of World Politics: an Introduction to International Relations book to buy with it.

Good introduction
This book is very good at introducing the main debates in international relations quite clearly. But it doesn't really go beyond that. If you're completely new to international relations theories and know absolutely nothing, this book is a great place to start. If not, you'll probably find there is not much new.Be aware though, there are some omissions and errors (the latter in my opinion) in some of the chapters, but nothing devastating, and the style and quality will differ (naturally) from author to author writing about different theories.
