Fantastic - the best money you'll spend is buying this book!
This book is worth the price... An absolutely fantastic book to get your family finances in order and then maximise them. The information is detailed enough, but not overwhelming. It gives logical, practical advice that you can actually work through by yourself/ with your family, that will have real impact on your future. It's already saved me money in advisor / managed fund fees, helped me envisage my retirement income and given me more confidence to make investment decisions for myself.I'd also recommend The Evidence Based Investor website as well, once you finish the book.Buy it, read it, do the workbook activities, put it into practice and then recommend it to a friend. They'll thank you for it!

Really useful UK-centric guide to personal financial planning
This book is great. The authors are knowledgeable and have created a great guide to planning your financial future. I really like that it takes a broader view, helping you decide how much you might need for retirement, not just which specific investments to make. This and Tim Hale's Smarter Investing are my most important reference books for personal financial planning.

The most useful book about money I've ever read!
A brilliant book. The book has a logical layout walking through all aspects of managing money. It covers concepts, theory and definitions in an easily digestible way, but also includes convincing evidence, references and useful websites. I wish I had read it 30 years ago! I have bought 2 more copies to give to my children.

An excellent guide to investing for retirement
I would recommend this book as an invaluable starting point (and ending point for many) for people looking to maximise the potential for their retirement finances to run realistically and smoothly. Powell and Hollow provide an approachable and evidence-based guide to understanding your own drivers, risk tolerance and financial wishes, and then offer sound options for checking your wishes are achievable and then realising them in a systematic manner.I'm just starting the decumulation stage and they include a section that spoke particularly strongly to me (pp 116-119) about the interrelationship of portfolio growth, inflation, platform fees, adviser fees and income - anyone who does not get a timely grasp of this concept may get a nasty shock when it is too late to do much about it.They also highlight the case for owning a share of every business. On the same basis, I like to take advice from every (compatible) writer. To this end, I would start with this book to set the scene as above, move next to Tim Hale's Smarter Investing book to home in on specific passive funds, and finish off with Michael McClung's strategies for optimal withdrawal and and rebalancing (although this needs to be somewhat translated from the American). Another fantastic free resource that pulls it all together can be found on the Monevator website.Overall, resources like these, carefully applied, give us the opportunity to make the most of our hard-earned retirement resources at optimum stress levels.

Highly recommend to UK readers
I was looking for a book that was UK focussed and could help me take charge of my financial future. It’s very well written and very practical useful advice. I wasn’t going to complete the downloadable workbooks but actually that has been incredibly useful and continues to be. This book has given me the confidence and knowledge I needed to plan for my financial future. Helpful for every stage of financial life but I wish I had read something like this 20 years ago!

Very informative and useful book
I have read a large number of financial and investment books. They are usually US based as that is the main market for those type of books. This book is UK based. I found it to be extremely useful from a whole financial planning perspective and entirely relevant to UK based readers.
